White gold can be created using different alloys. If for example 18ct white is required 75% is pure gold with the other 25% being made up of other metals. These other metals can include Nickel (used less now as it can cause Dermatitis in some people who have sensitive skin.) and more commonly a metal called Palladium. Palladium is more expensive and creates a strong white coloured alloy when mixed with gold.

Yellow gold and white gold both contain gold. The difference between the two metals is the other alloys that are used with the gold. White gold uses more white metals as alloys. The white metals used in white gold produces the white color of white gold. Rose gold uses copper as one of the alloys, which produces the rose red color of rose gold. Stainless steel by itself is extremely rust and corrosion resistant. In nature, when stainless steel is exposed to oxygen, it forms a natural passive film coating that protects it from rust and corrosion. However, when stainless steel is placed in salt water, the chlorides in the salt water attack this passive film coating, exposing the stainless steel to rust and corrosion.
