Right-click Internet Email then click Properties (if Internet Email is not in the list click Add, Internet Email, then OK )

Here are notes on setting up MS Outlook for email access under MS Windows 95 or 98. We will use, in this outline, an example user named John Smith with a mail account name of smith@rxn.com and a dialup PPP account name of Psmith. You will need to substitute your own account names. MS Outlook is a commercial email client from MicroSoft. In MS IE, select [View], then [Internet Options...], then select the [Programs] tab. Next to the Mail label, select MS Outlook. Save your changes.

We will use, in this outline, an example user named John Smith with an RXN mail account name of smith@rxn.com and a dialup PPP account name of Psmith. You will need to substitute your own account names. MS Outlook Express is the mail interface distributed with IE 4.0.

Select "POP3" from the pull-down menu as your server type. Then enter "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your incoming mail server and "smtpo.ctimail.com" as your outgoing mail server. Press "NEXT" to continue. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server) Select "Use an existing dialup connection" button and then select "CTInets" from the scroll-down menu. Press "NEXT".

Fill in your name and your email address. Then type "popo.ctimail.com*" or "pop1.ctimail.com*" as your Internet mail server. The account name is your login ID and then enter your password. Afterwards, press " ADVANCED OPTIONS" button. (* Click here for selection of incoming mail server)

Set-up a new account in Outlook Express, and use the following details: POP Server: mail.domain.com , SMTP serer: mail.domain.com , username: email@address.com and password: the password you specified when creating the account.

Either Click on the attachment and select “Save Attachments” or RIGHT click on the attachment icon and click “Save target as”. The “SAVE IN” input box should now contain “TEMP” in the “save in” window.

Go to Tools->Accounts and select the account you just created (e.g. pop.asylee.net). Select 'Set as Default' if this is your primary e-mail address. Select 'Properties' Select the "Servers" Tab and check the box "My server requires Authentication" under "Outgoing Mail Server" and select "Okay"

Because MailFilter will mark the subject line of all spam designated messages, please consider using your software's "rules" to redirect "mailfiltered:" messages to trash. Tip: Create a new folder and redirect "mailfiltered:" messages to the new folder for easy review (File menu -> New -> select Folder). If your web site contact form does not include some type of image verification, it is likely your form will be abused by spammers and the like.

Your email address will be your Outlook username followed by @bsu.edu If your username is jdoe, your email address will be jdoe@bsu.edu

Outlook Express removes suspicious attachment files by default to avoid opening a virus. To remove this option, do the following: Click the Security Tab, uncheck the option box Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus. The problem is due to the default setting on some mail clients that support authentication on the outgoing (SMTP) mail server.

Go to "Tools->E-mail Accounts" and select "Add a new e-mail account" and click "Next" Click the "More Settings" button and select the "Outgoing Server" tab and check the box "My server requires Authentication". Click "Okay".

The format is username@hostname, where username is your username, login name, or account number, and hostname is the name of the computer or Internet provider you use. The hostname may be a few words strung together with periods.

To create an mail account. Open Outlook. On the Tools menu, click Accounts. In the "Internet Accounts" dialog box, click the Add button and select Mail. Type a descriptive name for this email account. Press the "Next" button. Type your e-mail address. Press the "Next" button. E-mail Address: This would be the username of the account you created in the Control Panel, plus, the "@" symbol follow by your domain. Example: username_you_chose@yourdomain.com.

Go to the MailKit options page in the Options dialog and click the Browse button to locate the program file of Outlook Express. Usually the full path name will look something like "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe".
