Moon jellies are certainly the most common, but several others occasionally make landing. Portuguese man-of-war can often be blown in with a strong storm from the South. Sea Nettle, Mushroom Jellies, and cabbage Head Jellies are also known to be off the coast and can be blown into shore. Lions Mane Jelly Fish are among the rarest to wash up. They can be as large as 8 feet across and have tentacles 100 feet long.

The Channel is too cold and dirty for sharks. On the other hand, the channel is replete with jellyfish. The stings are not fatal but are very painful. Usually this happens as I am taking a stroke and what feels like three or four electrified barbed wires are being dragged across my skin- jellyfish tentacles. We recommend hand washing using a very mild LIQUID HAND SOAP. DO NOT use any detergents, delicate washes, wool washes or antibacterials. These can leach out the natural oils and the leather could become stiff. Thinsulate is made of many tiny fibers that do not absorb water, it is important to wash it properly if you are to maintain the hydrophobic characteristics of the fibers. Yes, but it is not the wide beach that gently slopes into a long shallow sandy bottom. Cozumel has few beaches like that, and they are all miles from anywhere. You can't have both great fish life for snorkeling/diving and a beach sloping into long shallow sandy bottom. They just don't go together. Contrary to what you may believe, the beach does extend past the Radisson. Padre Island is 34 miles long, and while not all of that is easily accessible from town, the stretch of relatively untouched beach north of the city limits is well worth exploring - especially if you want to get naked and frolic in the dunes.
