The main purpose of your power supply is to run your trains. To run your train your power supply must supply energy for your locomotive, smoke unit, sound system , and any lighted cars. You may also need power for accessories like switches, street lights, building and house lighting or any other accessories. Your TOTAL POWER REQUIREMENTS depends upon the number of locomotives or motors, and ALL OTHER items that require electricity. The length of the track is not a factor.

The inflight power pack contains adapters for the following connections: Fig-8, Cloverleaf and Dell D-series (horizontal 3-pin adapter). This covers most laptops. In case you do encounter a problem then please let us know.  

If you have a laptop, it will be nice if you can bring it along on the 2nd day of the conference where you can have hands-on practice on web design. However, it is not essential if you do not have a laptop; from our past experience, there are enough laptop in the class to be shared among the attendees. You will also received a comprehensive course manual on web design that you can do your own practice after the conference.

Use of computers is not allowed during class, but can be used during breaks. Please note that there is no Internet access for students' laptops. XINNIX provides public computers at the XINNIX Academy with Internet access for students' use during breaks and lunch. The hotel also provides internet access in their guestrooms. Some assignments do require the use of the computer, but the XINNIX computers will suffice.

Yes. All fellows are required to have their own personal laptops, with the appropriate security and firewall software installed. You need to bring your laptop to school every day.

We strongly encourage all students to bring a laptop, but if you don't have one or would prefer not bringing one, that's fine. If you let us know in advance, we may be able to arrange the loan of a laptop during the Workshop, subject to availability. We have found that students who already have considerable experience often gain as much or more than students who have more to learn from the ‘core’ material.

There are no restrictions on bringing laptops, but you may need a simple adaptor. Standard voltage in Russia and other European countries is 220 volts, while in America it is 110 volts. It means that all electronic devices will be fried unless you have an adaptor which transforms the voltage and makes it acceptable. Such step down transformers may be bought at Radioshack or Sears for $20-$30. However, most laptops do not need such transformers.

A transformer is a tool that takes the output of a Dapp and converts it to another format. Current transformers include: RSS, email, HTML, Google Maps, and more. To transform a Dapp, find or create a Dapp and then click the 'more uses' button to see the available set of transformers.

Yes, if you have one. If not, no problem, we are also renting laptops so that 2 students share one. (See also "What to bring" below).

Nowadays most laptop power supplies support multiple voltage standards. If the description on your laptop power supply reads “Input:100V – 240V” then you will only need a plug adapter to connect your laptop. This is a small piece that will change only the type of the plug and should not cost more than $5.00 at Radio Shack or a hardware store. Do not use a power converter as it may damage your computer.

Electricity IS 230V AC in the Republic and 240V AC in Northern Ireland. Plugs are three-pin flat and 2-pin round wall sockets are also found. British electrical appliances will work everywhere. North American appliances require a transformer and a plug adapter. Australian and New Zealand appliance need just a plug adapter.

In fact, transformers are available in a wide range of wattage ratings, so we need to look at the question the other way around: "what size of transformer do I need to power the group of lights required"? This is simply a matter of multiplying the wattage and numbers of the lamps used in the luminaires (garden lighting fittings) to be connected to the transformer. For example 6 light fittings at 20 watts = 120 watts in total. Therefore a 150 watt(va) transformer is required.
