What are UPC and ISRC codes?

Kerascene Music Distribution
A Universal Product Code (UPC) is nothing more than a unique group of numbers that are exclusively associated with your release. If you already have a UPC then inform us when you send the CD, if not, we will organize one for you free of charge. Each one of your songs needs its own unique International Standard Recording Code (ISRC) code to keep track of how many copies it has sold.

What should I know about UPC and ISRC numbers?

TuneCore: FAQ
A UPC ("Universal Product Code") number is nothing more than a group of numbers that are exclusively associated with your album, EP or single. That's it. A BARCODE is a way for a machine to read the UPC numbers. The UPC numbers appear in graphic form as vertical lines: the lines represent the numbers of your UPC in a way that can be scanned and understand by a computer. A UPC/Bar Code allows physical stores to order your CDs easily. See similar questions...

FAQ
Actually, they are programmed into the cash register either manually or with a software application. Once they are in the register, the scanner just reads the code off of the product and translates the information to the cash register. See similar questions...

What is the ISRC?

Frequently Asked Questions about cdda2wav
The International Standard Record Code is an unique id for a track. Like the MCN (see above) it is an optional item. No, due to legal reasons. But I added two scripts to use an external encoder. The trick is to avoid big temporary files. So I made two versions (cdda2mp3 and cdda2mp3.new), one using pipes, and one using a named pipe. The examples use the Fraunhofer encoder 'l3enc', which is a commercial product and has to be purchased seperately. Other encoders should be usable in a similar way. See similar questions...

One source is www.myfonts.com. The suggested type is TrueType for Windows. We do not supply this font in order to keep the price to a minimum. (Some users may already have this font on their system. While it is possible to use the UPC (Universal Product Code) or ISBN/EAN codes as the bar code in PCCC, it becomes a problem if you have more than one copy of a book title. The bar codes for each item must be unique, but the UPC's on multiple copies of books are not. See similar questions...

Can I use UPC codes for my SKU numbers? What about Code 39?

Wolf Track Software - Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, you can use UPC or Code 39 for your store's SKU numbers. If you are using UPC codes, you need to have a scanner with a setting that recognizes UPC codes. When you enter your SKU numbers into inventory for the first time, you simply scan the product's UPC code into the area where you enter your SKU number.
