What is Saturn made of?
Cassini UVIS FAQsSaturn is about 75% hydrogen and 25% helium with traces of water, methane and ammonia. Saturn's interior consists of a rocky core, a liquid metallic hydrogen layer and a molecular hydrogen layer. Traces of various ices are also present. Saturn is the least dense of the planets and would float if you could find an ocean large enough to put it in.
How thick are Saturn's rings?
HubbleSite - Reference Desk - FAQsThe Hubble telescope has captured snapshots of Saturn with its rings nearly edge-on to our view. Read more about it. Saturn's rings are incredibly thin, with a thickness of only about 30 feet (10 meters). The rings are made of dusty ice, in the form of boulder-sized and smaller chunks that gently collide with each other as they orbit around Saturn. Saturn's gravitational field constantly disrupts these ice chunks, keeping them spread out and preventing them from combining to form a moon. See similar questions...
How come you don't have rings for the other planets besides Saturn like Jupiter?
NASA - JPL Solar System SimulatorRing models haven't yet been assembled; however, the rings of Jupiter, Uranus and Neptune are extremely dim and most likely invisible to the naked eye except at just the right geometry. See similar questions...
Who was the first to see Saturn's rings?
Frequently Asked Questions About Saturn's RingsIt takes Saturn 29.5 years to complete one revolution around the Sun. As it circles the Sun, the angle of the Saturn's rings relative to the Sun varies by 27.3 degrees. Twice during the 29.5 years, the rings are edge-on to the Sun. Since, as seen from Saturn, the Earth appears not more then 6 degrees from the Sun, it too crosses the ring plane at around the same time. See similar questions...
What color is Saturn?
Cassini UVIS FAQsSaturn's natural colors are muted yellows and browns with some whites and reds. Sometimes you will also see pictures that have been "color-enhanced". This method is used when the images have been taken in a wavelength of light humans can't see (like UVIS takes Ultraviolet data). We assign colors to the different the wavelengths so that we can see a picture that's understandable to us. See similar questions...
How long should I expect my SATURN boat to last?
INFLATABLE BOATS", dinghies, rafts. 11' INFLATABLE BOAT only...That is totally up to you. If you take good care of your boat, it may last 5-10 years. If you will not take proper care of the boat, it will only last up to its warranty period. Abused and mishandled boats are not covered by the warranty. If the boat is constantly dragged behind your sailboat, left year round on a dock or left dirty and directly under harmful UV-rays, you can't expect it to last forever. See similar questions...
How SATURN are our boats different from other brands?
INFLATABLE BOATS", dinghies, rafts. 11' INFLATABLE BOAT only...Saturn Inflatable boats are made of the same quality materials as famous expensive brand name inflatable boats. The workmanship is exactly the same or even better quality then most overpriced brand names that you can buy in retail marine stores. SATURN Our boats are made by major manufacturer of inflatable boats in Korea. The Extra thick 1100 Dtex fabric with polyester support is a much thicker fabric than some other famous brands use. How did the rings form around Saturn?
Frequently Asked Questions About Saturn's RingsThe rings are remnants of material of the early solar system that never formed into satellites because they were within the Roche limit. A medium size moon of Saturn strayed inside the Roche limit and was pulled apart by tidal forces, forming the rings. See similar questions...
Are we sending any spacecraft to Saturn?
Frequently Asked Questions About Saturn's RingsYes, the Cassini mission was launched in 1997. It will arrive at Saturn in 2004, and deploy a probe to land on Saturn's largest moon, Titan. See similar questions...
When did it arrive at Saturn?
Cassini UVIS FAQsIt entered Saturn's orbit on July 1, 2004 at 2:36 Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)--which would be June 30 at 8:36 p.m. (MDT). See similar questions...
Why does Saturn have rings?
Cassini UVIS FAQsOther planets, like Jupiter, Neptune and Uranus have rings also, but Saturn's rings are more breathtaking. It's believed that Saturn's rings were formed when small moons were broken apart by collisions with meteoroids, comets, small asteroids, or other small moons that orbit around Saturn. Over time the gravitational pull of larger moons and of Saturn's equatorial bulge flattened the pieces into the thin disk we now see. See similar questions...
What is the length of a day and year on Saturn?
Cassini UVIS FAQsA day on Saturn is 10.2 Earth hours long (one rotation on it's axis). A year on Saturn is 29.46 Earth years long (one orbit around the Sun). See similar questions...
How many moons does Saturn have?
Cassini UVIS FAQsThere are at least 34 moons orbiting Saturn and we always seem to be discovering more. Titan is the biggest moon and the only one with an atmosphere--which is thick with nitrogen. It's 5,150 kilometers in diameter and bigger than the planet Mercury, which is 4,878 km in diameter. Saturn's moons are usually named after characters in Greek and Roman mythology. Are Saturn inflatable boats certified or approved?
INFLATABLE BOATS", dinghies, rafts. 11' INFLATABLE BOAT only...Manufacturer Identification Codes (MIC) were assigned by the US Coast Guard on May 6, 2003. Our boats have been CE, ISO and Germanischer Lloyd Certified in Europe, Asia and Australia. The NMMA certification is expensive and optional, so we did not applied for such a certification in order to keep our expenses/prices as low as possible. The valve has a special pushpin inside. This pushpin has two positions. Up and down positions. When it is pressed in the down position, air will escape. See similar questions...
Why is the Saturn ring plane crossing important?
Frequently Asked Questions About Saturn's RingsAny new information obtained during the 1995-1996 ring plane crossing may prove to be invaluable for the upcoming Cassini mission to Saturn. For example, Cassini will actually pass through the outer rings of Saturn during its orbit insertion - passing between the F and G rings at a distance of 2.67 Saturn radii from the planet. Observations of the G ring can help assess the relative risk to Cassini before it arrives at Saturn. See similar questions...
What happens to Cassini when the Saturn tour is over after four years?
Cassini UVIS FAQsThe spacecraft will continue to orbit Saturn until it runs out of fuel, which could take many decades. There could be enough fuel and power for Cassini to take and relay data for a quite a while. However, budgetary limits will dictate how long after June 20, 2008 it will operate. When it runs out of fuel, it will spin up and break apart. See similar questions...
