PDF stands for Portable Document Format. This type of file is used widely on the web because it is relatively small and easy to share across different computer platforms. The software required to read PDFs is available free online. It's called Acrobat Reader and you download it from Adobe. When clicking on links to Acrobat PDF files, your browser may open the document in a new browser window, or ask you whether you wish to view or save the document.

Check your Application Launcher and look for the icon called "Install Acrobat 7". If you have this icon launching it will install Adobe Acrobat 7 on your computer. If you don't have the icon contact your Administrator and they can help you obtain the software. A license must be purchased for $30 from College Park as the Department does not supply licenses for Acrobat 7. We also offer a free program that will convert any file to pdf format.

Perhaps even more important is the amount of time it takes to view a PDF file on the web with a dial-up connection vs. a standard HTML page. It's our experience that information viewed via a PDF file can take many times longer, if not orders of magnitude longer, than the same information viewed in a standard HTML page. This is a genuine barrier for clients with a dial-up connection.

Reader files are considerably smaller when it comes to graphics, pictures, and the like, which decreases your download time. 3. Download the new TrialDirector version 4.5 "PDF Viewer Add-On" from the inData's website and install it, then whenever you launch a PDF file in TrialDirector (Presentation Mode), the file will be TEMPORARILY converted to a file type that will allow markups and annotations. Once the file is open in TrialDirector, create you annotations, and then use the "Screen Snapshot" feature in TrialDirector. This will save the file with the markups.
