Students receiving All University (Latin) honors at commencement ceremony are recognized with honor cords. Cum Laude designation requires a cumulative grade point average from 3.5 to 3.749. Magna Cum Laude designation requires a cumulative grade point average from 3.75 to 3.849. Summa Cum Laude designation requires a cumulative grade point average of 3.85 or higher; or a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 to 3.

Latin Honors are awarded according to your overall GPA at graduation. To be eligible, you must have completed at least 90 (98 for the School of Nursing) University of California units for a letter grade. The levels of honors are summa cum laude, magna cum laude, and cum laude. There are three components of the University Honors Program. Each has a different application procedure: Students apply on-line to the Lower Division program through this website. No! Honors students take Honors-designated classes. However, these classes do not constitute your full schedule. Over half of your course schedule each semester will be non-Honors classes. You will not be academically isolated from non-Honors students. Although Honors students have the unique option of choosing to live in a residence hall community filled with Honors students, there are numerous other on-campus residence halls from which you may choose.
