The ProCurve 5400zl, 3500yl, and 6200yl switches are compatible with the meshing feature on the 5300xl and 3400cl Series switches. There is no backward-compatibility mode for interoperation with a ProCurve Switch 4000M mesh.

The document titled Support for the J8177B 1000Base-T Mini-GBIC specifies software requirements to use that mini-GBIC in ProCurve switches. The document also identifies ProCurve switches and modules that do not support the J8177B 1000Base-T mini-GBIC, for example products with "dual-personality" ports. Trunking is the technology where a pool of frequency channels is available to a large number of different user groups. The trunking system transmits a continuous data channel that steers radios assigned to the same talk-group to one of the system frequencies when there is a request by one of the units to transmit.
