What if I have a slipped disk?
Chiropractic FAQThere is actually no such thing as a "slipped" disc. The spinal discs are a cushioning piece of tissue that lie between each bone of the spine. There are two parts to the disk, the annulus (the tough part, like gristle) and the nucleus (a soft center, about the consistancy of peanut butter). If the spinal vertebra tilt and create a wedge, the nucleus can bulge toward the wide end of the wedge area. This can cause undue pressure on the spinal nerve roots or on the spinal cord.
What is the difference between a bulging disk, a slipped disk, and a herniated disk?
eOrthopodHave you ever heard of an X-stopper for spinal stenosis. My father called and said he's having surgery Monday to put an X-stopper in his spine. I went on-line but couldn't find anything to explain this. I'm 88-years old and lived a full life. The last two years I've had some back pain from spinal stenosis. Some days it's pretty bad. My son tells me that his daughter (my granddaughter) has spinal stenosis, too. Could she have gotten it from me? I thought this was an old age thing. See similar questions...

How much disk space can I use?
Math Department Computing FAQAt the moment, there are no quotas. This *does not mean*, however, that you can use hundreds of megabytes of disk space. Remember that you are sharing the same disk with many other grad students. Please be courteous. To find out how much space you are using, type "du -s" (no quotes) in your home directory. The number that is returned is in kilobytes. For example: cantor> du -s 8437 means that I am using 8+ megabytes of space. See similar questions...
If a student pays for the use of disk space or computer time, would the student own the disk space?
Frequently Asked QuestionsThe payment made for the use of disk space is not a sales price, but a service fee. The student buys a service, not title to the space on the disk. Think in terms of monthly telephone service, you pay for the right to use the telephone lines when you pay your monthly phone bill. The University owns the medium; it does not purport to own copyrightable work placed on/in the medium. See similar questions...

Do I Have A Slipped Disc?
FAQ'sThe disc is a soft pulpy "shock absorber." It has a fibrous outer ring, which holds in a jelly-like material. A "slipped disc" is a common way to refer to a wide variety of disc problems. However, a disc can't slip because of the way it is attached to the spinal bones above and below it. A disc can bulge, tear, herniated, thin, dry out, or collapse. But it cannot slip. However, in order to do any of these things the vertebrae must have subluxated first. See similar questions...
What is a slipped Band, and what causes it?
LapBand FAQThere are two types of slippage; anterior and posterior. This refers to whether the front or back side of the stomach slips. There is something else called concentric pouch dilation, but this is not the same as slippage. Slippage or prolapse is when the stomach slides up through the Band, making the pouch bigger. If this happens the Band usually becomes too tight, and patients experience symptoms of reflux (heartburn) as well as nausea and vomiting. See similar questions...
How is a slipped Band diagnosed?
LapBand FAQFortunately, this is very easy. Often the diagnosis is made based on the history alone. A patient who has been going along fine, with no problems, and then suddenly develops reflux symptoms or symptoms of a too-tight Band will most likely have a slipped Band. The diagnosis is easily confirmed with an x-ray and barium swallow examination. Endoscopy is rarely necessary. See similar questions...
How is a slipped Band fixed?
LapBand FAQA slipped Band needs to be fixed with an operation. The Band has to be dissected out, all the sutures removed, and the position of the stomach made right. Some surgeons remove the Band and place it back through a new tunnel. Others just straighten things out and re-suture the stomach over the Band. See similar questions...
Which geometry should I use for a disk drive?
Frequently Asked Questions for FreeBSD 2.X, 3.X and 4.XNote: By the ''geometry'' of a disk, we mean the number of cylinders, heads and sectors/track on a disk - I will refer to this as C/H/S for convenience. This is how the PC's BIOS works out which area on a disk to read/write from. This seems to cause a lot of confusion for some reason. First of all, the physical geometry of a SCSI drive is totally irrelevant, as FreeBSD works in term of disk blocks. See similar questions...
Is it safe to use R-Studio? Can it destroy data on disk?
R-TT - FAQR-Studio may write to disk only from hex editor (with enabled write) or when it is explicitly directed to save files on this disk. Therefore, you should be very carefully using hex editor. In all other modes and actions, R-Studio performs a read-only and never modifies data on partitions and drives directly. Open partition, which contains your files or explore all of them if you are not sure about choice of correct partition. See similar questions...
