There are important distinctions between activating your Windows operating system and registering it. Product activation and product registration are not the same. Activation is completely anonymous; it requires absolutely no personally identifiable information to complete. Activation is required and ensures that each Windows product is not installed on more than the limited number (usually one) of computers allowed in the software's end user license agreement, or EULA.

The Registration date coincides with the date you provided The MathWorks with your MATLAB & Simulink Student Version product serial number and your machine ID. The Activation date corresponds with the date when your serial number, machine ID, and proof of student status have been verified. The 'My Student Version Products' table displays only those Student Version products that require Activation.

an anti-piracy feature, some Microsoft products (such as Windows XP and the newer Office suites) require you to activate your copy of the software before it can be used regularly. You may be limited to a certain number of days or a number of times a product may be used before activation must be completed. Instructions for activation will be displayed during product installation.

Each copy of the PSC is required to be activated within 30 days of installation. Activation can be done either automatically or by sending us an email. Only paid, valid licenses will be activated.

Windows XP comes un-activated. In this state, Windows XP will only work for 30 or 90 days, depending upon your license. Product Activation is MANDATORY! If you want your system to work past the 30 or 90 days, you MUST activate your version of Windows XP. When you activate Windows XP, a listing of your computer's hardware is encoded into a hexidecimal code along with your CD key and then sent to Microsoft.

If you purchased packaged software, this code appears on the back or inside cover of the CD case. For downloads, this code appears in blue text at the bottom of the download page. If you lost this code, or did not receive one, just send us a note using our feedback form. We'll email you the code within 24 hours (in many cases we can respond in a few minutes).

Product activation is a process that combines your license code with unique characteristics of the hardware on your computer to generate an activation code. This code enables you to run the software on a particular computer and only that computer.

After installation with your purchased license code, you have unrestricted use of the software for 30 days. This should give you sufficient time, to complete the activation. If, for example, you install the software on a Saturday, you can use it immediately and process the activation the following Monday, but within the next 28 days.
