Yes, the Coastal Professional Barbeque Grill is an indirect heat grill. On the inside of the grill there is a 1/8" thick steel baffle. This design serves three purposes: 1) A very consistent overall grill temperature so you do not have to worry about crossover grilling because the entire grill surface is very consistent. 2) You will have limited flare-ups because of the deflector shield. 3) A convective grill that cooks from the top as well as the bottom. On the bottom of the body of the grill, where the steel is creased, there is a slight pitch from left to right and the grease and drippings constantly drain as they fall off of the top deflector shield and drain into a spout on the bottom right-hand side of the grill where there is a hook for a grease pail. Absolutely, to clean the grill it is just a matter of removing both deflector shields inside the grill and you have plenty of room to work with. Just a matter of taking a paint scraper and working grease and drippings to one side and taking a regular spray hose and forcing it out the two air intakes on the left side of the grill.
