Do you use silver or gold plated wire and components?

Divine Designs FAQs - purchase wire, sterling silver, gold, ...
Mostly, I do not. All of the silver I use is Sterling Silver or better. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver. I use some silver beads and components that come from the Karen Hill Tribe in Thailand. These silver beads and components are 95% silver. The rest of the sterling silver beads come from India, Turkey, Israel, China, Bali, Nepal and the USA, and maybe a few other places as well. The gold wire I use is 14K gold-filled. Occasionally I will use 12K gold-filled beads or components.

What about silver-plated wire?

AX84 - The General FAQ
Silver-plated copper wire shouldn't be used in any equipment that may be exposed to humidity over 50%. The silver reacts with the copper and causes the copper to turn into rust ("red plague"). Yes, this can only happen in the presence of oxygen, but it is very easy to "nick" a wire when stripping, even with the best tools and training. I have seen lengths of silver-plated copper wire in aircraft that still had continuity but had increased in resistance to several kOhms per foot.

While there are some metallic inks available, these are very rare and a general answer to this question is a simple "no." I work with gold and silver. Can I use Brown's Gas to make jewelry?

FAQ - Watertorch.com
Brown's Gas has been used by jewelers for over 30 years (those ones who have found out about it), as the gas of choice. It is a trade secret because any jeweler who uses BG has a competitive advantage. It solders, welds, brazes, preheats, plasma spray, anneals, etc. better than any other fuel-gas. It is EXTREMELY precise and has minimal heating of nearby components. BG is not in widespread use because (until now) the machines were expensive, inefficient and poorly marketed.

Why do you use exotic conductor materials such as gold or silver?

Pear Cable Audio Cables - Frequently Asked Questions
There are a variety of factors that come into play when deciding what conductor material will be best in a cable. Though less important for speaker cables, in interconnects, corrosion properties of the conductor play a dominant role in the performance. Copper experiences the highest levels of corrosion, with silver being substantially better, and gold being the best (it does not corrode at all). The corrosion that occurs in cables is of course on the surface of the conductors.

Can I get any of the styles in gold? What about gold tone or gold plated?

HVNLY NIGHTS - Non Piercing Intimate Jewelry - Frequently As...
Most of our designs by Arabesque are now available by special order in 14k and 18k gold. Most items not listed on our Prices page can also be made as a custom order. All of our gold jewelry is pure gold, so while it is more expensive than gold-plated or gold-toned, it is also of a much higher quality. When a product is advertised as "Gold Tone" or "Silver Tone" it means that there is a thin coating of some kind (brass or nickel) over an inexpensive base metal (iron etc.).
