Nubuk and Suede are both difficult to care for and clean. Nubuk is top grain leather in which to grain has been buffed to resemble a suede-like appearance. Both are nearly impossible to clean. We recommend that you consider our Nubuk and Suede kit. This product contains a Nubuk foam cleaner, “mooncloth” and protection spray. This will give you a limited amount of protection to normal wear and prolong the life of your leather but will not prevent damage from major accidents.

Nubuk is top grain leather that has been aniline dyed for color and then polished to create a nap. Since Nubuk leathers have no pigment applied these hides will exhibit color variation from hide to hide and dye lot to dye lot. Some natural markings are visible throughout these hides. Prolonged exposure to sunlight will cause these leathers to fade.

How to care for leather and how to clean leather depends entirely upon what type of leather you have. And remember, cleaning leather is an imperfect art at best. We can break this down into three categories. If you are uncertain about something don’t hesitate to ask us! Pigmented leather is the easiest to care for and to clean. In general it can be identified by its shiny and glossy surface, however there are exceptions so be careful. It requires very little care.

Just brush off the loose dirt after it's dry and treat your footwear with commercial water-repellent spray. Never use waterproofing wax or grease - they may impair your footwear's breathability. UP

A If your shoes are leather, you should buff them with a good leather conditioner every so often. This will keep the leather looking new and remove minor scratches and scuff marks. If your shoes are suede, lightly brush them with a suede brush to remove dust and minor scuffs. You can also spray them with spray silicone to repel dampness. Shoes from our vegan line can be wiped with a damp cloth and a mild soap. The micro-fiber ultra suede should be treated the same as regular suede.

They're high quality leather which means that you can wear them out on the street without having to worry about ruining them like you would suede soles. You can create a suede-like sole by scuffing up the soles with a wire brush or on the pavement. This is a good idea as the soles can be really slick otherwise.

Gently clean the surface using a cotton cloth or any other soft cloth soaked in a solution of 5% neutral detergent for wool. Thoroughly remove all traces of detergent with a damp cloth, and then apply a suede protective substance when dry. Should the suede surface become wet, dry as soon as possible using a soft, dry cloth. Suede may be damaged by using brushes with bristles made of nylon or any other synthetic fibres, or solvents containing alcohol, petrol or alkaline acids.

When the boots have dried overnight, rub the suede with the same (dry) fingernail brush to brush up the nap of the suede. Note: If the suede becomes smooth you can very lightly sand the shiny area with some 120 grit sand paper to bring back up the nap. Do this before cleaning. Be very careful not to sand too deep and avoid the stitching.

Like leather, you can pre-treat them with sprays and conditioners/lotions, then apply cleaners for cleaning stains. Kiwi, AppleGuard, and Cadillac are good brands to look for for pre-treating. Suede cleaning eraser blocks are good for dry-cleaning suede. These can be found in drugstores.

Many leather goods are made from the byproducts of the slaughterhouse, so while you may not be contributing to the destruction of animals, you will be contributing to the profits of these establishments. Some leather is purpose made, i.e. the animal is grown and slaughtered purely for its skin. We need to send all leather garments out to a leather specialist, and so the turnaround time is 2-3 weeks from pickup until delivery at your desk. We recommend cleaning it using a neutral soap diluted with water. Use a dry, soft and white cloth. We do not recommend any type of conditioner, or chemical to be placed on the sofa. Simply dusting the sofa, and cleaning up spots when they occur should help keep your sofa looking good for its expected life. Remember that leather is a natural material that can change its appearance as it ages.

To keep a fine leather product looking new and lustrous, it should be properly cared for. A regular cleaning with a soft brush or dry cloth is essential for preserving the life of your leather goods. After considerable use or after leather product has gotten muddy or extremely dirty, it should be thoroughly cleaned down to its pours. After a deep cleaning, a leather product should then be conditioned to replenish the lost emollients.

Keep your new leather and garments out of direct sunlight and store them in unzipped garment bags. Doing so will allow the leather to breathe. Of course, for best results, get your leather and suede items cleaned at a professional leather cleaner, but only when necessary.

Oily or greasy marks (provided you move quickly) - on some occasions it is possible to sprinkle talcum powder on the marks, and the talc will absorb some of the oil or grease. If any heavy soiling occurs that cannot be brushed out then a suede shampoo (saddle soap) with hard brush & cold water. Leather - you need to be sitting down. Put your hands & knee inside the front of the crown & give gradual pulls, try on after each pull to ensure you do not overstretch.

Leather is treated with protective products at the factory. Regular dusting with a damp, clean cloth is advised.

Leather requires proper care. Exposure to water may cause your strap to become brittle and eventually break. Contact with perfumes should be avoided to preserve the finish of the leather. The life span of a strap depends on your care and wearing habits as well as the climate in which you live.
