How Many USB hubs can I connect together?

D-Link Australia. USB FAQ
In total you should only connect 5 tiers of USB hubs together. A tier is defined by the number of hubs a device's signal must pass through before it reaches the host. For example, using the DSB-H4, D-Link's 4-port USB hub, you could connect a theoretical maximum of 341 hubs in five tiers, this would leave you with an incredible 1024 ports to connect USB devices! But you should only connect 127 devices together at any time. Do not add a 6th tier of USB Hubs.

Will Kick-off! work with USB hubs?

Sophisticated Circuits FAQ
Yes, Kick-off! can be connected to a USB hub, or a USB keyboard, and it will still be able to detect and respond to system crashes. To complete its restart procedure on Macs, Kick-off! also sends the USB "Power On" signal. Most USB hubs cannot pass the USB Power On signal along to the Mac; however, you can ensure the Mac will start itself by setting the "restart automatically after power failure" feature in the Energy Saver Control Panel. How do you connect two 100Base-T hubs together?

ProCurve Networking by HP - Support - FAQs
For the HP Advancestack 100Base-T Hub-8txe and the ProCurve Networking by HP 100Base-T Hub 8, which are Class II hubs, plug a straight-through cable from the MDI port on one hub to the MDI-X port on the other hub. For the HP Advancestack 100Base-T Hub-12tx and the HP Advancestack 100Base-T Hub-12txm, which are Class I hubs, only one single repeater is allowed. These hubs, however, can be stacked to allow up to five of these hubs in a stack. See similar questions...

Can I connect my GPS receiver via USB?

EADS N.V. - FAQs - Frequently Asked Questions
A USB cable and the presence of USB connections are not yet adequate for exchanging data successfully. However, data transfer can be effected using a USB cable if a serial COM Port is emulated by the GPS receiver. The GPS data must be available in the NMEA 0183 format when data is called up online, so that Geogrid is in a position to evaluate these data. See similar questions...

Q22. Do Quatech USB to Serial Adapters contain USB hubs as well as serial ports?

USB Serial Adapter FAQs by Quatech
No. Quatech USB to serial adapters do not also included hubs. However, you can purchase third-party USB hubs to add additional USB ports to your system. The maximum data rate for USB 1.1 is 12 Mbps. USB 2.0 devices are capable of speeds up to 480 Mbps. Quatech USB 1.1 compatible serial adapters can reach speeds of 460.8 kbps--more than fast enough for most serial peripherals. Thus, there would be no advantage to implementing USB to serial adapters on the USB 2.0 standard. No. See similar questions...

What is the difference between self-powered and bus-powered USB hubs?

D-Link Australia. USB FAQ
A self-powered hub plugs into an electrical outlet so that it is better able to provide connected devices with power. Only low power USB devices can be connected to a bus-powered hub (like mice and keyboards). A self-powered hub will allow you to safely connect other devices that require up to the full 500mA outlined in the USB specification. D-Link offers self-powered and user-selectable self- or bus-powered hubs. See similar questions...

How can I connect 2 PCs to each other with USB?

D-Link Australia. USB FAQ
There are a number of USB bridges on the market. These devices allow a direct connection between 2 PCs via their USB ports. However, D-Link recommends using a DSB-650 to add Ethernet networking via USB. Two computers can be connected either via an Ethernet Hub (DE-805TP/C - the "Hubby" is a great choice for a home network) or via a cross-over cable. USB bridges are limited in their functionality. They effectively work by accessing a shared piece of memory built into the bridge. See similar questions...
