Tiger uses much too much CPU power. Is this normal?

FAQ]Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger" Installation - macosx.co...
When you first install Tiger, Spotlight is indexing your harddrive(s). Whenever you attach a FW-drive, for example, Spotlight also does its job. In the first few hours (sometimes even days), Spotlight seems to eat a lot of CPU power for creating and adjusting its index(es). This is normal and gets better over time, until normal disk I/O operations are back to normal or even slightly faster. (Personal experience thing, I guess..

eConsole uses 100% CPU time. Why is this so ?

eConsole History Page
Under Windows 9x, eConsole registers as using 100% of the available CPU time while idle. This does not, however, reflect the actual machine load, since the computer remains accessible and responsive as usual under Windows 9x. The cause for this phenomenon seems to be within the metering API of Windows 9x - under NT, eConsole registers with between 0% and 3% CPU load while idle, which is what one should expect.

On my system ksoftirqd uses 70-100 percent of the CPU time. What's wrong ?

PARISC-LINUX: FAQ
In the HIL drivers we poll the HIL ports with a few timers simultanously and those timers seem to increase the ksoftirqd load a lot. But although the load seems to be very high, the machine will be fully functional at maximum speed and it seems to us as if this is only a cosmetical problem which is maybe caused by some bugs in the load calculation functions in the Linux kernel.

I feel hungry all the time. Is that normal?

CFmenu.jpg
Yes, it is very common. Your body is making up for the time it wasn't fully absorbing foods. Hunger levels tend to normalize within the first months after eliminating gluten and beginning a well balanced diet of gluten-free foods.

My Ferret Trembles A Lot. Is This Normal?

Frequently Asked Questions
Generally, yes. Ferrets normally tremble for two reasons. First they often shiver right after waking up, in order to raise their body temperatures. Second, they shake or quiver when excited or frightened. For a young kit, this could be all the time, since everything is new and interesting. For older ferrets, a bath or even a good scolding could prompt trembling.

K9 seems to use a lot of CPU/memory, slowing down my other programs. Can I fix this?

Robin Keir's home page - Software - K9 - FAQ
Usually K9 is pretty efficient with its processing. However, depending on several factors it can consume a lot of horsepower for small periods of time. To help minimize these problems follow these steps. Make sure your Recent Emails list is kept reasonably short. Use the Cleanup and Storage options on the Configuration page to keep this list trimmed. The same applies to the Archives area lists. Again, use the Cleanup and Storage options to ensure that the lists never grow too large.

Why is MadTracker taking so much CPU time?

MadTracker - FAQ
MadTracker has a high-quality playback engine (check the About page), and because of that needs quite a lot of power. The minimum recommended configuration is a Pentium 166 MHz with 32 MB RAM. The optimal configuration would be a Pentium 233 MHz with 64 MB RAM under a NT-based (real 32-bit) version of Windows (NT 4, 2000 or XP). You must have a motherboard with the bugged 686b southbridge. Check The 686b bugfix for more information about this bug and the solutions to solve the problem.

Is it normal to lose a lot of hair from shampooing?

Carter and Bond: essential male grooming, shaving, skin care...
Incredibly most of us lose between 40-100 strands of hair every day as the hair reaches the end of its growth cycle. This is not as drastic as it sounds when you consider that the average scalp has around 100,000 hairs. The good news is that those hairs are not lost forever - once a hair is shed a new one begins to grow from the same follicle to replace it.

I have a lot of pain during my periods. Is this normal?

FAQs | sexualityandu.ca - Your Link to Sexual Well-Being
Pain during your period is called dysmenorrhea, and it is extremely common. It is usually associated with cycles that release an egg (ovulatory cycles). When young women first start to get their periods, they may not release an egg every month so their periods may not be as painful. When your period starts (menstruation), chemicals called prostaglandins are released which cause your uterus to contract.

My mobile device uses a XSCALE cpu. Where can I find applications for it?

If an application is not available for the XSCALE cpu you can also use the ARM (StrongARM) version of it. XSCALE cpu's also understand ARM instructions. My newer applications (e.g. MemInfo.NET, Rosebud, Voyager) are developed with the .NET CF and in this case you need not care about it.

How do I find out how much memory and CPU time my job used?

Supercomputing FAQs
The queue_job_id is the numeric job number. This is seen in the left column when you type "qstat -a" while the job is running. After the job completes, there will be an additional file in your directory with the job id number as part of the file name. In the output from tracejob, resources_used.cput is the amount of CPU time used, and resources_used.mem is the maximum amount of memory used.

Our firm uses a lot of specialized words of the trade. Will these products recognize those words?

VoiceWizard - Frequently Asked Questions
Many of the trade words will be recognized. For words that are not recognized, most products have some mechanism for scanning written material for the remaining new words which are then added as a group into the program's vocabulary by a strictly software based operation. After scanning is complete, the words will be recognized. Words with unusual pronunciations may need individual training or tweaking. Vendors often have prepared specific trade vocabulary add-ons as well.
