We use just about every type of system available to design our sites. Some of our designers work off the PC platform, mostly Dell workstations, a few of our designers work from the Macintosh OSX platform, our programmers work off of the Linux/UNIX platform, and we even have a Silicon Graphics machine for high-end animation and video. For software, we swear by the Adobe and Macromedia suites. We utilize Adobe's PhotoShop, PageMaker, Acrobat Professional, Illustrator, and Streamline.

For most of our work, we're using 2 Canon GL-2s for video capture, and 2 Canon 20Ds for stills. The video editing is done in Final Cut Express HD on a Mac Pro and MacBook Pro. The stills editing occurs in Photoshop on the Macs and a PC.

I use an iRiver 799 to record, a great little mp3 player that also records straight into mp3 format, and lets you fiddle around with recording levels etc. I believe it has been discontinued now, but if you can find a small iRiver with the crucial line-in input (for the mic), hopefully it will do the job just as well. We use PC based work stations, Sonic Foundry Acid + Sound Forge, Midi keyboards, VST Plug-Ins (virtual synthesizers, virtual instruments), as well as turntables and a collection of vinyl dating back to early 1970.

I use Macromedia Flash MX for all of the cartoons. If you can get your hands on it, try it out, but it tends to be expensive (I lucked out and got a copy from my dad). If you want to learn how to use it, there're a lot of great tutorials online (picking up a book is a great idea too). One good site I'd recommend is actionscripts.org. For recording voices, I use Goldwave, but only because it was a free download and I'm not yet fed up with it begging me to register.

There are two main ways to create torrent files, one is to use specific BitTorrent clients that also give you the ability to create torrents like ?Torrent or Azureus, the other is to use something like Make Torrent 2 which is designed solely to make torrents and nothing else.

About 90% of the images are created with Micrografx Picture Publisher 7 and 8. The rest is made with Alchemy Mindworks' GIF Construction Set 32 and a few with Paint Shop Pro. Oh, and the raytraced 3D-thingies are made with Micrografx Simply 3D 2 and 3. Nope... Both Picture Publisher, Simply 3D and GIF Construction Set 32 are commercial programs.
