What was your first guitar?

Perfecto De Castro - FAQ
My first guitar was a classical bought at JB Music. My first electric was a pirated (read: fake) Gibson SG also bought at JB.

Why doesn't my guitar stay in tune?

Frequently Asked Questions
To best explain the most common causes of this problem, lets follow the path of the strings. We begin at the tuners. If the they are poorly made, loose, or installed incorrectly, the strings will slip. Next, the strings can bind at the nut if the slots are cut at the wrong angle or incorrect width. Now the strings pass over the entire neck and this is where intonation is very important. If it has not been properly set, you will notice some chords sound in tune and others do not.

Is my guitar ready yet? What about now? Is it ready now? Ok, how about now? ...and now?

Frequently Asked Questions
If i haven't called you, its not ready. My goal is to provide quality repairs with reasonable turnaround times. Many of my repairs are done just two or three days. Some repairs take longer than expected and calling me repeatedly does not make me work any faster.

Trash Can Sinatras FAQ 3.5

See my page at http://www.gis.net/~jdimaria/tcs/tabs.html Some of the same guitar tabs are available via anonymous ftp at ftp.uu.net /doc/music/guitar and other sites that used to have tabs are no longer available. If you have figured out any tabs, please e-mail them to me and try to post them to ftp.uu.net and also to the list.

Okay then, what is "Snake Guitar"?

Eno FAQ 2: about the music
I decided to ask him about some of the instruments listed on the album's liner, with such exotic appellations as "snake guitar, "digital guitar," and "desert guitars." In the case of the first, for instance, I had often thought that given Eno's reputation it would not be out of the question for him to lay a guitar down in the middle of the recording studio and tape the sound of a reptile belly crawling slowly across the strings. He laughed.

WHAT IS THE FIRST GUITAR YOU PLAYED?

Amy Schugar .::. Frequently Asked Questions
The first guitar I ever played was a 70's to early 80's model Fender acoustic, which I still have. It is a small guitar and was given to my sister for lessons and she later gave it to me when she realized that the guitar just wasn't for her. It is listed on my gear page- She was something.. I remember her coming to Phoenix when I was just a kid.. she reminded me of Charo - she was almost "not real"..I remember she wanted to take me back to Mexico City.

Can I process my guitar with Synthesizers.com modules?

Synthesizers.com --- FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, if you boost the signal level with a Q118 Instrument Interface. Signal levels of a guitar are very low and need to be boosted (amplified) in order to match those of a modular synth. Synthesizers.com modules are not designed to work stand-alone, they need an enclosure such as a cabinet or rack frame, and a power supply system. There is not a module that will extract pitch information from your guitar (Pitch to voltage converter). That is a very difficult task.

What is Slack Key Guitar?

Hawaiian Music FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Slack Key or Ki Ho'alu has often been referred to as Hawaiian Soul Music. Slack Key is indigenous to Hawaii, and while it is the one of the most difficult styles to master, it is one of the most beautiful to listen to. Slack Key has a very interesting history. King Kamehameha III brought several Spanish Cowboys from California to Hawaii in the 1830's to help control the cattle on Hawaii.

I have preamp in my guitar already. Can I connect my guitar to the AP 13 directly?

Technical Support
Sure. The onboard guitar preamp isn't usually necessary, but the AP 13 will work fine with most all varieties. Check to see if you need phantom power from the AP 13 though. This setting can be very important to maximizing performance with a second preamp.

How do changes in environment and temperature affect my guitar?

Frequently Asked Questions
Ok first lets start with humidity and seasonal changes. Sometimes these will cause changes in the amount of relief present in your guitar neck. The result may be minor fret buzz or action that feels a bit higher than normal. A truss rod adjustment is usually all that is needed. As for temperature... cold isn't so bad, its how quickly the guitar warms up that causes problems.

I heard you do repair work for several guitar stores in town?

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, I currently handle repairs for Legato Guitars, and Port City Guitars as well as directly thru Guitar Lab.

Which guitar kit do you recommend?

Musical Instrument Makers Forum miniFAQ: Acoustic Guitar Mak...
A kit from any reputable dealer will likely make a fine instrument. Our members seem to prefer the kits from Stuart-MacDonald largely because they include both a full-size plan and an instructional video, and because with their kits you get the option of a bolt-on neck. We don't recommend trying to alter a kit that has pre-bent sides, nor to change a 14-fret neck to a 12-fret neck (or the other way around).

Do you make a pickup for a split-saddle guitar?

Highlander Musical Audio Products. Frequently Asked Question...
Yes, the iP-1 and the iP-2 both have the split-saddle option. These systems are supplied with two pickup sensors connected to one preamplifier, specifically for split-saddle guitar. (There is an additional charge for the second pickup).

Are gold plated plugs on my guitar cable better?

Highlander Musical Audio Products. Frequently Asked Question...
Gold plated plugs can actually cause problems. When plugged in to a regular nickel plated socket, the dissimilar metals can create distortion (through a slight diode action). The real benefit of gold plated connectors is that they do not tarnish, but they must be mated with gold sockets.

Will the Acoustic Lens pickup work on any guitar?

Trance Audio - Frequently Asked Questions
The Acoustic Lens pickup was designed and voiced specifically for the steel string guitar. It can be installed on most steel string guitars but because of its mounting location requirements, it will not work in some instruments. Classical (nylon string) guitars use fan bracing, where the braces run over the bridgeplate and block the area where the pickups need to mount, and so are unsuitable candidates for installation.

Should I take guitar lessons?

Dansm's Guitar Pages: Frequently Asked Questions
I recommend taking guitar lessons because a good teacher can look at your playing and tell you what you are doing wrong before it becomes a bad habit. I can't do that over e-mail. However, if you don't have time or money, you can learn on your own. It just takes more time and there is no guarantee that you will do it right.

Who's that guy with the guitar?

Most likely, if it's moe. related, it's Al Schneir. Al has been known, on occasion, to play solo acoustic sets. These sets are very informal, often with Al telling stories in between songs. Schneir released a solo album of electronic music written and performed entirely by Al. Al has brought his al.one show on the road in support of the album. Sonic Garden is a Buffalo based band of primarily Grateful Dead covers. Before Vinnie Amico came to play drums for moe., he played with Sonic Garden.
