Spanish language skills are a plus as well as experience working in urban schools and with students similar to DCP's target student. Flexibility, collegiality and stamina are a must.

Programming languages in which many UPOP students are proficient include: Java, JavaScript, Perl, C, C++, Visual Basic, XML, Fortran, Pascal, and others. Nearly all students are very familiar with Unix operating systems (in addition to Microsoft Windows) due to the Athena computing environment at MIT. Many have experience with mathematics software such as Maple, Matlab, and Mathematica.

Some of the skills needed are: The ability to make it sound like it is “the first time”, in other words, when you are doing a record and the director asks you to “do it again” and “one more time” for about the 10th time, you have to make it sound fresh, as if you have never said it before. Another skill needed is, believe it or not, the ability to “Be a Professional.” This is the most basic and a skill anyone from any profession could benefit from.

Yes. A series of workshops, along with guidance from your faculty mentors, help you develop your writing and presentation skills. You also have a chance to utilize these skills by developing and delivering formal presentations and papers on your research.

A tester's professionalism and competence is perceived and judged based upon how they communicate verbally and in writing. testers, our job is to find bugs so we are constantly the bearers of bad news. If we present this bad news in an ambiguous way or with a bad attitude, the recipient's natural response may be to "shoot the messenger".

Prospective employers look for strong communication skills in a student, so be prepared to discuss how well you communicate in a team setting, individually to customers or clients, as well as to upper level management. It will also be important for you to demonstrate that you are proficient in speaking and writing proper English. Be sure to indicate on your resume the level of fluency you speak each language you list.

Not necessarily, though it depends on the organization. Some organizations will be looking for VISTAs with skills in multimedia production or computer systems management. Some organizations might want VISTAs to help develop a volunteer program, or help with grant applications, in which case some basic computer skills including office applications (like Microsoft Office) would be helpful.

Product development is inherently a collaborative activity, involving both internal groups (e.g. Engineering, Marketing, Manufacturing, Sales & Service etc) and external partners (customers, technology suppliers, material/component suppliers, co-development partners, subcontractors, contract manufacturers, sales distributors etc). Few firms have all the skills and resources to develop technologically complex products themselves.

The world is becomming more secular every day. It thinks of Christians as intolerant and asks us to be quiet about our faith and our values. It is increasingly difficult for Christians to feel comfortable enough to discuss what they believe, yet the Lord makes it clear we are to share the Good News and be ready to give an answer to those who would question us. More communication skill is required today than ever before in order to be ready to answer in grace.

If the program you are applying to is not an English-speaking program, CALS will arrange for your language proficiency to be evaluated by a UW faculty person who is fluent in the language of instruction.

It will be an added advantage to have strong drawing ability, as all of your work would require you to visualize/illustrate your ideas and present them to your lecturers before executing on the computer.

Besides the basic skills, each college has their own online course management system; it will be the responsibility of the faculty members to familiarize you to their system. This may be a short tutorial that you can complete on your own.
