Why is there a color difference between some gold coins?

Altermore Invest
Individuals who have observed bullion and proof gold coins often ask this question. It is also sometimes observable in bullion coins of different dates. The question of color then stems from the premise that gold is gold and the color should be exactly the same. Although the last sentence is factually correct the premise of judgment of color is incorrect. The reason for this is that the Krugerrand coin, is not pure gold but 22 carats. This amounts to approximately 91.6% gold.

How should I store gold coins ?

About buying gold
No special care is needed with gold - gold will not tarnish or corrode no matter how you store it. We do recommend keeping the coins in their original mint tubes or packaging just as you receive them from us. Gold is soft, and your Mint-fresh coins can be scratched or marred by rough handling. This won't effect their gold value, of course, but bullion coins can lose some of their resale value if not kept in perfect Mint condition. See similar questions...

Where do other people store gold coins ?

About buying gold
Traditionally, gold owners have used their bank safe deposit boxes for secure storage of gold. Although bank vaults offer virtually absolute protection, you can also buy insurance on their contents as a rider on your homeowners policy at a surprisingly low cost. Some people prefer to keep at least some of their gold closer to home, often protected in a floor safe, or kept well concealed. This is a matter of personal preference, and where you store your gold is a private decision. See similar questions...

Why aren't some gold coins pure ?

Gold facts and statistics
Traditionally, gold coins are 90% to 91.7% pure. The addition of another metal as alloy makes the coins stand up to wear much better than pure gold, which is very soft. Where should I store my gold coins for safe keeping?

Altermore Invest
Safe keeping of your Krugerrands is your responsibility. You can lock them up in a safe in your house or in a Bank safety deposit box. Any place that you deem safe will do. Bear in mind that the more people you have that have access to your safe keeping place the less likely the chances that you will remain the owner of your Krugerrands. A secondary smaller safe hidden in your home would not be a bad idea. Often with robberies the victims are made to open the safe. See similar questions...

How many different sizes of gold coins are available ?

Gold facts and statistics
Gold bullion coins range in size from as small as 1/25th of an ounce up to the full kilogram (32.15 troy ounces) Australian Nugget. By far the most popular is the 1-troy ounce size, which probably accounts for more than 75% of all bullion gold traded. Why is the premium higher on small gold coins ?

Gold facts and statistics
Simple economics is why bullion coins that are fractions of an ounce cost more per ounce than a 1-ounce coin. There's a fixed production cost to bullion, no matter what the size. So on a smaller size coin, that production cost is a bigger percentage of its gold value. See similar questions...
