You should see a white icon in your systemtray (right-bottom of your screen). That is Haali Media Splitter. Double-click on that icon to view its options. You can also get to the options by clicking on the Haali Media Splitter shortcut in the start menu. Once you are in the Options screen, click on 'Languages'. There you can set the preferred language(s) for audio and subtitles. The language should be input using a three character code, for example eng for English.

You will first need to convert the FLAC files to another format that your burning program is familiar with. Windows users can use the FLAC Frontend, to convert FLAC files to WAV files, which are suitable for burning programs. For Macintosh OS X users, Dan Greuel has created a tool called MacFLAC.

The number and nature of subtitles vary from disc to disc and are entirely at the behest of the studio producing that particular DVD. If you can?t find the subtitles you?re looking for in the ?Subtitle? field of the ?Technical Details? section, chances are they?ve not been included on the disc!

To change the language that messages are displayed in you need to specify your "locale" using the LANG environment variable. Under bash (the default shell) you do this using the command "LANG=ll_CC" where "ll" is a two-letter language code and "CC" is a two-letter country code. We currently support the following locales:

Yes. If the channel has subtitles or AD, they get recorded, and you can switch them on or off as required for playback. Since the last software upgrade, if you are in an ex-NTL area the V+ displays teletext page 888 subtitles itself, so you'll be able to see these even if you are using HDMI or Component. This will be coming to ex-Telewest areas soon. Note that subtitles won't get recorded on your DVD/VCR if you use the archive feature.

Foreign language subtitles only translate what is being said. Captions include everything that is heard, e.g sound effects and music. They are also coloured to help the viewer follow who is speaking.

the WinTV is connected to the Sound card, it uses one of the Sound cards Mixer settings to control the volume. This setting can be selected in the WinTV Audio configuration. If you click on the AUD button located in the WinTV2000 application you can select the Audio Mixer Input here. When you adjust the Volume control in the WinTV application, you are really just adjusting the level of a single Volume control from your sound card's mixer (Windows “Volume Control”).

Some movie subtitles may appear in the black letterboxing below the movie image. If you use automated screen masking, the subtitles may then be obscured by the mask. The Kaleidescape System now offers the option of repositioning subtitles within the movie image.

You should see a green arrow shaped icon in your systemtray (right-bottom of your screen). That is DirectVobSub. Right-click on that icon to enable or disable the subtitles.

If you haven't turned off Haali's "show tray icon" option on the last page of the installer, there will be a small white icon down beside the clock in the task bar when playing MKV's. Right-click that and choose streams according to your preference. If you've turned Haali's tray icon off, or if you're playing OGM's, there's other ways: in Zoom Player, right-click the video and choose "Stream selection" in the menu that pops up. From here you can choose audio and subtitles to your preference.

MIDI is not sound. You can't simply press the Bounce button on an output object, and expect the external synth's sound to magically turn up in your final song. MIDI is a series of commands to your MIDI devices, which then may produce the desired sound/audio. In order to have this sound included when you bounce the song to a final audiofile, you can do two things. First of all, feed the sounding results of the synths - via an external mixer or directly - into audio inputs of your soundcard.

Assemble your best 2-channel stereo mixes on CD (or other media — see previous question), preferrably in the correct playback order. Be sure that there is no clipping (distortions due to levels surpassing the maximum limit of your recording system).
