Hamsters are crepuscular, which means they like to sleep during the day and party all night long. If you don't believe me try putting your hamster's cage in your bedroom one night and see how much sleep you get. This doesn't mean you'll never see them. If you give your hamsters a treat when you get home they'll come to expect it and be waiting for you!

Well, the lions and the tigers do sleep a lot.  Like all cats, big or small, they rest or sleep up to 16 hours per day!  For best viewing of our big cats, we recommend seeing them in the morning, especially right after opening time of 9am, and on cooler days.  Just like humans, they really take it easy on hot days.

A hamster can run for a distance of several kilometres or more in a night. So that is a lot of exercise. It is best to find a large solid plastic exercise wheel. Hamsters love to come out of their cage and run around a room in the late evening or early morning. If the cage has an easy access side opening then you can leave it open on the floor. The hamster will learn to come out and run around and then climb back into the cage on his own whenever he needs a rest.

Sometimes food might not be completely digested by going through the hamster once. So the hamster will eat it again. I have noticed that the lighter, brown coloured poos might be re-eaten but the black ones are left. I've read that the average life span of a hamster is about 1000 days, which would be about 2 years and 9 months. The longest living hamster I had was about 2 years and 8 months old, which I figured out to be 965 days, pretty close to 1000! I know of other people who have had a hamster that lived 3 or 4 years.

In warm conditions or when he is asleep, a male hamster will let his balls drop out. These can look very big and sometimes alarm a hamster owner. He will pull them back when he is active, or if you lightly touch one. As a hamster becomes old, he is less active and you are more likely to see this.

oral appliance is a small plastic device that fits over the upper and lower teeth, similar to an orthodontic retainer or mouth guard. The appliance is worn in the mouth during sleep to prevent the soft tissues of the throat from collapsing and obstructing the airway. Oral appliances work by slightly advancing the lower jaw which in turn moves the base of the tongue forward and opens the airway to allow improved breathing and reduced snoring and apneas during sleep.

Each of our staterooms has one oversize full bed which comfortably sleeps two adults. There is also a pull down twin overhead which is ideal for children or close family.

Most often, because pain has been relieved and baby is comfortable and able to relax and rest. There are absolutely no narcotic or habit forming ingredients in our formula. Peaceful sleep often follows naturally after relief.

Sometimes they might bury their house if it is cold. The sawdust around the house acts as insulation, so provide more sawdust in cold weather. Also you could check to see if there is a draft, this is something which they particularly do not like, and position the cage away from any drafts. So check for both cold and drafts. When it is warm in summer they are less likely to bury their nests. Moving sawdust can be regarded as one of those 'cute' things that hamster occasionally like to do.

Leave her alone, provide her with more bedding and extra food. When she has pups, do not touch or disturb the pups for a couple of weeks. So avoid cage cleaning and do not vac around the cage. You do need to clean the toilet area of the cage and you can provide fresh bedding for the mother to exchange for old bedding. You might also want to remove the wheel to prevent the pups being injured if they are playing around the wheel when the mother runs on it.

No matter what you have heard, water is dangerous to hamsters. Even if they do not drown trying to stay out of the water, chances are they will catch pneumonia.

It is not safe to feed hamsters with food that contains bugs as these bugs are from an unknown origin. Since the food was most likely harvested from a farming environment, there is no way to tell if these bugs ingested pesticides or carry diseases/parasites. Do buy reliable brands of hamster mixes which come with an expiry date and are vacuum packed to ensure the freshness of the food.
