To see why snowflakes look like they do, consider the life history of a single snow crystal, as shown in the diagram at right. (Click on the picture for a larger view.) The story begins up in a cloud, when a minute cloud droplet first freezes into a tiny particle of ice. As water vapor starts condensing on its surface, the ice particle quickly develops facets, thus becoming a small hexagonal prism. For a while it keeps this simple faceted shape as it grows.

Ok, we'll confess. We really don't have as much time to actively work with the stones as we'd like. Most frequently we sit with them while watching television or reading. If they are small they'll ride around in our bras. We frequently sleep with our rocks too. If the Thermo-Pad has been stored in its crystallized state for an extended period of time, a small amount of water can evaporate from the pad and cause the solution to become more concentrated. This can be caused by a sudden drop in temperature or humidity level. When this occurs, some of the trapped moisture will leach back into the air leaving a crystal-like formation. A few years ago my friend, James Hughes, who had also begun teaches me about the uses of subtle energies, suggested putting a couple of crystals in the zapper. The increased efficiency and pleasant feeling that resulted was apparent to many people. James later suggested coloring the crystals red and purple, which made the zapper work even better. The six-fold symmetry of a snow crystal ultimately derives from the hexagonal geometry of the ice crystal lattice. But the lattice has molecular dimensions, so it's not trivial how this nano-scale symmetry is transferred to the structure of a large snow crystal. The way it works is through faceting. The primary type of algae found on rooftops - Gloeocapsa magma - thrives in humid environments, often appearing first on the north slope of a roof where extra shade and moisture support its growth. Algae can derive mineral nutrients from fillers such as calcium carbonate in asphalt shingles. Now The Great Morel can back this with more than a theory. A few years back, The Great morel spotted three small grey morels (the 3" variety) after repeatedly checking on a known patch. Thus placing small sticks beside them, and monitored them over a three-day period. The results at the end of the three-day period were as follows. One of three grew a total of one half inch. Sometimes precipitation or crystallization may appear in a product. This can occur with products that are close to saturation and have gotten cold. If this happens, the solution should be warmed to room temperature and then the sealed ampule should be sonicated for approximately fifteen minutes.
