Only those students whose first language is not English and whose first degree was not conducted in English are required to provide evidence of English Language proficiency. Certificates must be provided for any English Language qualifications obtained. These should be submitted with the application and remainder of the documentation.

Students must demonstrate an English Language competency. Applicants who did not have English as the formal language of instruction are expected to demonstrate a reasonable command of the language by taking a TOEFL or an IELTS test (for a TOEFL a score of 500+ & written test score of 4.0+ in conventional is required; or a score of 200+ is required for a computer based TOEFL test; for an IELTS test a score 5.5+ is required).

While we prefer that the students take TOEFL, we do accept valid IELTS scores (7.0 minimum) as well as an alternative to TOEFL scores.

No. You can enter our English Language Certificate program directly. Starting in Level 3, you can begin taking academic classes for credit. After completing Level 5, you can enter directly into the academic or vocational program you want and transfer credit from your ESL program to your academic program.

You do not need to have taken the IELTS or TOEFL tests to join the UFP, however, we expect you to have a level of English language equivalent to a minimum score of 5.0 in IELTS or 500 in TOEFL. If you are not sure what your level is, you will be required to take an English to assess your level. Please contact us to arrange for this test. If your level of English language is insufficient, you will be required to attend an English course before starting the UFP.

Yes, the IELTS is accepted in lieu of the TOEFL. Please note that the minimum Overall Band Score for admission to the Department of Urban Planning is 8.0.

You can send the rest of the application to us, even if you have not taken the TOEFL/IELTS. However we will not process your application without your TOEFL/IELTS score.
