This can vary significantly from tea to tea, but there are rules of thumb. In general a black tea needs to brew 3-5 minutes for best flavor. They will often get bitter if you let them brew more than 6 or 7 minutes. Green teas often need only 1 minute, but 2-3 minutes is not unusual. Oolongs typically need 2-3 minutes. How come you don't recommend that we brew the tea twice like some companies do?

Most likely, companies that ask you to bring the tea to a boil twice are using regular (not powdered) herbs, and it's harder to get the medicinal extract out of large herb particles. We've tried both methods (brewing once and brewing twice) and had the same results from both brewing methods: so don't waste your time brewing these powdered herbs twice.
