Frequently Asked Questions

Will Biodiesel be cheaper than petrol-diesel?

Green Car Company
We have seen a few occurrences where Biodiesel has actually been cheaper and the prices are continuing to get closer and closer together. That being said unless specific governmental regulation prohibiting petrol-diesel sales, or requiring Biodiesel sales is enacted Biodiesel will always stay slightly more expensive that petrol-diesel. Biodiesel is a direct substitute that is a higher quality product. It is a higher quality product because it produces significantly less environmental impacts.

Will the Biodiesel and petrol-diesel blend inside my tank?

Green Car Company
Yes, as long as both fuels are above their cloud point temperature they will blend together inside your vehicles fuel tank.

Will I get the same power from biodiesel as petroleum diesel?

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, possibly more due to its superior cetane rating. Biodiesel does contain 5% fewer BTUs per gallon than petroleum diesel, but burns more completely than petroleum diesel. Therefore, you get more energy from the fuel with less pollution. Partially burned fuel creates waste and more air pollution.

What are the comparative emissions to petrol and diesel?

LPG Mowers - Frequently Asked Questions
LPG compared to petrol and diesel is approximately 70% cleaner over CO2, HC. Particulates are not prevalent in LPG.

Can I use biodiesel in my existing diesel engine?

Frequently Asked Questions
Any diesel engine can operate on Biodiesel with no modification to the engine. Older vehicles often must have their fuel lines changed from natural rubber to synthetic rubber hoses. Using B20 (a blend of 20% biodiesel and 80% petroleum diesel) requires no precautions before use. If you want to use a blend higher than B20, such as B99.9, you will need to be aware of a few precautions before proceding. B100 is compatible will ALL diesel engines as long a few precautions are taken.

How do biodiesel's emissions compare to petro-diesel?

Frequently Asked Questions
Studies vary. Some laboratory research indicates slight increases in NOx by running biodiesel. Others find NOx neutral. Some claim that in "real-world driving conditions," NOx is decreased. Read more about our take on the NOx issue. Possibly. Anything in concentration can damage the environment. It is non-toxic and biodiegradable and it will generally degrade in the soil within 30 days from the time its spill, but the bottom line is: Don't spill it.

Is Biodiesel safer than petroleum diesel?

Evans Environmental Energies, Inc.
Scientific research confirms that Biodiesel exhaust has a less harmful impact on human health than petroleum diesel fuel. Biodiesel emissions have decreased levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH) and nitrited PAH compounds that have been identified as potential cancer causing compounds. Test results indicate PAH compounds were reduced by 75 to 85 percent, with the exception of benzo(a)anthracene, which was reduced by roughly 50 percent.

What are the differences in emissions from diesel and petrol engines?

AECC - Association for Emissions Control by Catalyst
Because maximum power production from diesel engines is fuel and not air limited it is still the only engine that is "lean burn" across the full power/speed range. This brings real fuel and carbon dioxide emission savings - good for the global environment. But it challenges the catalyst chemist to control nitrogen oxide and particulate emissions at low exhaust temperatures with excess oxygen.

FAQ15: What is better to run, petrol or diesel ?

Both. You pays your money and you takes your choice. Given two engines of similar size and assuming good condition, the diesel will be nominally cheaper to run, but will not like running on no load or light load. The petrol engines will run better at low speeds and on light load, but they loose more fuel through evaporation than diesels. I have all diesels, excepting the smaller engines such as a pair of Lister D's, a Wolseley and two Bamfords, all petrol.

Why is the price of diesel often higher than the price of petrol?

FuelWatch
Consumers often ask why the price of diesel is sometimes higher than petrol, in the belief that diesel is a low-cost product to produce. Although diesel requires less crude oil per litre, it is not a 'waste' product and new Commonwealth Fuel Quality Standards for lower sulphur diesel require a more complex refining process.

Will the car be available in a Petrol or a diesel engine ?

Mahindra Renault
The car will be available in both Petrol & Diesel variants. We will disclose product details at a later date but our models will definitely offer additional value compared to competition. With regards to Parts and Service availability our objective is to not only provide parts at a reasonable price but also service the customer requirement at his doorstep. In order to support such a system we have a wide & strong network of Mahindra Scorpio dealers, Part Stockists, Part Retailers.

Will diesel cars be treated the same as petrol cars? What is the diesel supplement?

Car tax issues - reform of taxation on company cars
For diesel cars the percentage based on the CO2 figure will be increased by 3%. So if the percentage based on CO2 is 18%, the percentage used to calculate the car benefit charge will be 21%. But the supplement can 't take the percentage above 35%

What is Biodiesel?

Biodiesel.org - Home Heating Oil
Biodiesel is a clean burning alternative fuel produced from vegetable oils and animal fats through a chemical reaction and meeting ASTM D 6751. Biodiesel contains no petroleum, but it can be blended at any level with heating oil. It can be used in home heating oil systems safely with no modifications to the fuel tanks, pumps or burners in concentrations up to 20% biodiesel with only minimal precautions (see conditions for use section).

How do emission, fuel economy and power compare with biodiesel and with diesel fuel?

FAQ - PlantDrive? International - convert diesel to run on v...
Emissions results do vary between engines and test equipment, but in our tests on an early 80's VW turbodiesel, opacity (which is used as an indicator of particulate emissions) was reduced by about 50%, compared to premium diesel fuel. Other EPA regulated emissions were about the same for all the fuels tested. Power was equal to premium diesel that test. We find no difference power while driving, between diesel and SVO/WVO, as long as the filter is clean and the SVO is heated.

Will my biodiesel void my diesel engine's warranty?

Biofuels Solutions
Most major diesel vehicle manufacturers have already acknowledged that biodiesel will not void your warranty. Check with your dealer or diesel mechanic for further details. In the UK a 5% blend will not effect any diesel warranties.

Is it SAFE to use BioDiesel in my Diesel Engine?

FAQ about Making and using BioDiesel Fuel - OfficialBioDiese...
Burning BioDiesel that meets the ASTM D-6751 specification in your vehicle is safe. There have been well over 45 million miles of real-world driving with B20 blends in a wide variety of engines, climates, and applications. Our belief is if you are careful & follow the common sense guidelines spelled out in our book, you can make BioDiesel which can meet or come very close to the ASTM D-6751 specification.

Is there any guarantee that the discounted price will be cheaper than other petrol stations?

AXA
Unfortunately not. Fuel prices vary from region to region and are subject to a number of local influences. However, should you use the card in a Statoil station where the price is cheaper than the current rate for AXA policy holders, Statoil will always charge the lesser of the two.
