Minimum resolution recommended is 300dpi or better. 72, 150, 200 are not acceptable resolutions for printing.

We provide repeat image files in EPS (vector) and tiff (bitmap) formats. The tiff files are full size at 300-350 dpi, and the EPS files can be sized to any size and resolution with no loss of detail. For photographic and fine art editions, our ideal file format is a flattened RGB tiff. We also accept jpegs, PDFs, and native Adobe PhotoShop formats. Optimum image resolution is 300-360 dpi at the final size to be printed. Resolution below 150 dpi may show pixilation. Display and design files can be submitted in most popular design programs, such as InDesign, Illustrator, or Quark. Please accompany design files with image links and fonts (or outlined fonts).

For best printing results, please make sure that your image file resolution should be at least 300 DPI (Dots Per Inch). The higher the DPI is the better quality your final output will be.

This is probably one of the more popular questions we get asked, if you are setting up your image at size, 300ppi up to an image size of 30x40 is fine. Anything larger than 30x40, 150ppi to 250ppi is plenty of resolution. Keep in mind the larger you go, the less resolution is required from you file as very large prints are meant to be viewed from a distance. General rule of thumb, the diagonal dimension of the final image, is the MINIMUM viewing distance.

For most documents you seldom have to exceed 150 dpi. For images that will be used with an OCR program, try to scan at 300 dpi for best character recognition. For line art such as cartoons of simple drawings, settings of 72 dpi may prove to be acceptable. The higher the dpi, the bigger the file. Note: cropping or deleting unwanted or unused areas around the actual image or information you want to save will also reduce the file size, even if the space is blank.)

It is common for the storage size of image files to be different from one another, even though their measurements and resolution are the same (for example: you have two 4x5 digital files @ 133ppi yet one is 321k, the other is 379k) The cause of this is in the way computers save pixel information and the number of colors in the image itself. Different colors are displayed by stacking pixels (short for picture element) in different orders to produce the necessary color.

For most large format prints, sizing your bitmap images to 100 dpi at output size delivers the best results. For example, a 24-inch by 18-inch image should be sized to 24" x 18" at 100 dpi, which translates to 2400 pixels wide by 1800 pixels high. But that is not to say that a small bitmap image can be blown up to many times its original size and still look good. Good printing results require that the graphics are created at or close to their final output size.

There are settings within your PDF creation program (e.g. Acrobat Distiller) that determine how much to 'downsample' your file to in a lower resolution. This is feature is handy for website and Internet graphics, but for printed material it can be horrible.

It is relative, depending on how large the canvas print to be and the effects you want to achieve on the canvas. Normally, to print a small photo or image, the dpi (dots per inch) of the image file should be more than 100. For a large format, the dpi should be at least 50. For examples, to print a 12" x 12" photo, the photo should have a resolution of at least 1,200 x 1,200 pixels. The 20" x 20" canvas print needs 1,500 x 1,500 pixels. The 40" x 40" needs 2,000 x 2,000 pixels.

For best results, create your designs in 300 dpi for raster/screened items and 1200 dpi for bitmap/solid items.
