A bar code on a wristband can easily hold 10 to 12 characters using code 128 (a widely used linear bar code symbology). More information can be stored on a 2 dimensional matrix bar code symbology. Radio frequency identification (RFID) wristbands can hold up to 256 characters in the band's IC memory chip. The Data Protection Act 1988 places certain obligations on organisations which process personal data to register the purposes for which information is held or used, and to observe a set of agreed principles. The new system has an auto hold feature. If you are talking to someone on Access 1, Access 2 or Inquiry, the new system places them on hold automatically if you press one of the other line keys (Access 1, Access 2 or Inquiry).
