This information is printed next to the appropriate tax description on your earning statement. If you do not see any information about exemptions, then you are either claiming Exempt or your wages are less than the amount that would require a tax deduction, based upon your current W-4 setup. You may only claim one of the two exemptions. To claim the exemption, you must file an application with the Harris County Appraisal District. The application must include documentation of your disability. The application form is entitled "Application for Residential Homestead Exemption." Exemption from income tax withholding. Generally, an employee may claim exemption from income tax withholding because he or she had no income tax liability last year and expects none this year. You are not required to submit a new W-4 form each year unless you have claimed "Exempt". If you claim "Exempt" on your W-4, please be aware it will expire on December 31st of each year. A nonresident alien employee who is paid monthly shall complete the W-4 form as "single", one allowance and an additional withholding amount of $33.10. A nonresident alien employee, who is paid biweekly, must complete the form as "single", one allowance and an additional withholding amount of $15.30.
