Answer: Non-prior service applicants may use the ONGSP right after enlisting if there is a 90-day or more window from their enlistment date and their basic training date; or 90-day or more window between their basic training completion date and MOS/AFSC start date; or anytime, after completing Basic Training-MOS/AFSC, during their six (6) year enlistment. The Initial Application should be completed and received by the ONGSP Office before the applicant attends Basic Training/AIT.

In most instances, you will still qualify. To be qualified for Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA) which is like extra unemployment benefits, you must have worked at least 26 weeks in the year before your layoff; however, the law allows weeks in active duty in the National Guard to substitute for weeks of employment. ROTC offers a program called Simultaneous Membership Program (SMP). Once you hit junior status you are eligible for the program. You are committed to entering the Air Force when you sign the AFROTC Contract, Form 1056. Cadets in the Professional Officer Course and scholarship cadets are called contract cadets. National guard awards will be awarded manually. That report is sent to us by SSACI and should be on student's accounts by the fourth week of classes. This award only covers tuition and fees. These are sent every Tuesday from IU Bloomington for our campus here at IUS. If a student has a notice from SSACI it was sent prematurely. As long as a student is admitted to IUS the TUIT code will be sent and they can disregard the letter.
