No. Standard 12V automotive power sources are incompatible with the HID light source. The standard halogen bulbs run at 12V, while HID lamps run at approximately 25000V and require several amps to start up. The additional hardware that comes with the kit is needed to convert your car's 12V power source to drive the HID system. The connector is also totally different from any automotive halogen bulb connector. Yes and no.

All of these components are designed together to work as a system and meet Federal regulations. Simply substituting a Xenon bulb for any other light source does not provide a legal headlamp beam pattern.

The limits of the halogen technology was reached with the introduction of the PREMIUM lamp. This lamp offer 30% more light on the road ahead compared to a standard lamp. The only way for further improvements was via a new technology. The gas discharge lamp proved the answer.

Principally, it's a question of life. A Xenon bulb is expected to give around 10,000 hours of life which on a vessel or in a caravan occupied only part of the time, should represent many years! You can use a dimmer with a halogen lamps but some low voltage halogen lamps require a special dimmer. However, the current decrease is not substantial. Light output over life will depend upon both operating wattage and any bulb blackening caused by tungsten deposits on the bulb wall.

Technically speaking it could and it is possible to adapt the light colour produced. However, this would lead to substantial loss of intensity, thereby canceling out the particular advantages gained. i.e. Increased driver concentration and reflection of the road marking etc of white light. If you have high nitrates... you probably have some kind of media?? in a filter? that produces nitrate. Usually the amount of liverock you have will easily de-nitrify the nitrate 1 lb to 1.75 lb per gal does it, I would, I bet that is where the nitrate is coming from. Remove it and then test the nitrate in a week or so.
