The widest wheels I’ve ever heard of anyone putting on a stock-fendered 914 are seven inches wide (7"). There are a lot of five-bolt 7" rims available; most are from 911 or 944 applications. Four-bolt 7" rims are less common. These are available from some aftermarket suppliers, and several wheel manufacturers will make wheels to order. Conventional wisdom is that the largest size tire you can fit under the stock fenders is a 205/60-15.

The ONLY one available is the one we have. But, you can change to a 3.50x17 or a 3.00x18. If you go with the 18" rim, you'll alter the handling characteristics some. For the street-driven 289FIA, we use 235/60-15 in the front, 295/50-15 in the rear. Smaller diameter tires can be used to duplicate the same sizes as the original cars' race rubber. On the other hand, for the ultimate in performance, the best performance tires are only available in 17" wheel diameters. Our 289FIA will accept 275-40-17 in the front, 315-35 -17in the rear. On the Road and Rally frames, it will depend on the tire and the brakes. Generally, the brakes will limit the tire size more than the frame. Also, the actual tire size can vary quite a bit from what is on the label. Some 700x28s are wider than some 700x32s. With Campy dual pivot brakes, I've been able to fit Rivendell Roll-y Pol-y 700x28 tires (which are pretty fat for a 700x28) on the Road frame. The size of the Kidarooz tire and tube are: 20 X 1.75 inches. If this size is not available, you may substitute the more commonly available, ‘bmx’ bicycle tire and tube sizes. However, you must purchase a two tires that are the same unless your bike stores recommends differently. For example it may be just the tread pattern that is different. Basically a hardness/quality rating, the higher the UTQG rating, the longer the tire will last. Higher UTQG ratings are achieved by making the tire compound harder, and the harder the tire is, the less traction it will provide. See the dilemma? Most any Fiat wheel with the 4x98 bolt pattern will fit on a 128. The offset, however, might not be correct for the application, and may create wheel-rub. There were two different wheel and tire packages for the 850CSi. Until early 1995 production, the 850CSi was equipped exclusively with three-piece M System II wheels consisting of a five-spoke forged alloy center and an outer cover in a "throwing star" design.
