Organisms, Craspedacusta sowerbii that are occasionally seen in our reservoirs that look like small marine jellyfish actually belong to a different taxonomic class, Hydrozoa, which includes the common hydra. These mostly translucent organisms are about the size of a quarter and feed on tiny zooplankton. Large, non-translucent gonads hang on their underside make them easier to spot on sunny days during the late summer.

We recommend fish for the omega 3 fatty acid content that can help raise the HDL level (the "good" cholesterol). The types of fat that are found in fish have been found to be highly beneficial, whereas the saturated fat in beef, chicken and pork will raise the LDL, or "bad" cholesterol. So, we say that anytime you can choose fish over other meats, you're doing yourself a favor.

Limit your consumption of Swordfish, Mackerel, or Tilefish, to 2 times per week or less. Stay with Snapper, Halibut, Salmon, Cod or Lobster to name a few. These contain little or no mercury. Every one else not pregnant... Good news! You would have to eat Swordfish every day, for quite some time to even approach an "above ?safe" level of mercury according to the FDA.

All sentient beings have unique personalities and an interest in living a life consistent with their current evolutionary development.. It is cruel and heartless to continue such practices as keeping hens in cages, calves in stalls, and sows in small iron and concrete crates.. These are wonderful, feeling personalities, serving a prison sentence they don't deserve. They are crying out to be free, if only we will open our minds and hearts and listen.

No snails are scavengers and feed on whatever organic matter they can find, (Plants, etc) They will only try and eat the fish if they are unhealthy or dead. They can't catch or hurt healthy fish.

Healthy diets should regularly include high quality, low fat sources of protein, like whey protein. NO! Fish is not cheap because their isn't plenty of it in the overfished Mediterranean sea. Prices of eating fresh fish range from reasonable to expensive. Plenty of frozen fish from the Atlantic though. This reminds me of the fact that restaurants MUST display by law if any item in a dish is frozen, and if they don't and are caught they'll end up paying a BIG fine.

The Ontario Natural Resources and Environment ministries have tested fish flesh samples from rock bass, brown bullhead and carp from the G. Ross Lord Reservoir, near Dufferin and Finch. Their conclusion, published in the "2001 - 2002 Guide To Eating Ontario Sport Fish", is that these fish are safe to eat for up to four meals per month by women of childbearing age and children up to 15 years old. Others may safely eat these fish for up to eight meals per month.

In the winter there are no salmon in the Columbia River and its' tributaries - salmon move into freshwater rivers early spring through fall. The rest of the year they are out in the ocean mostly in Alaskan waters. As the Expedition was here only in winter there was no opportunity for them to catch salmon. In addition, the explorers had gotten sick when eating salmon back in Idaho and had not regained their appetite for it. They did eat some fish that they purchased from the American Indians.

To eat too much fish is not advised when you are pregnant especially NOT raw fish and sushi! – best to wait until after your pregnancy.

This depends somewhat on the eating habits of the fish you have, and whether they are carnivorous, herbivorous, or omnivorous. In general, the greater variety of foods offered to the fish, the better off they will be. The exception is during the first 8 weeks in the life of an aquarium. Fish should be fed lightly with prepared dried foods during this time when the aquarium develops its culture of microorganisms (denitrifying bacteria) that help to maintain healthy water chemistry .

Moon jellies are certainly the most common, but several others occasionally make landing. Portuguese man-of-war can often be blown in with a strong storm from the South. Sea Nettle, Mushroom Jellies, and cabbage Head Jellies are also known to be off the coast and can be blown into shore. Lions Mane Jelly Fish are among the rarest to wash up. They can be as large as 8 feet across and have tentacles 100 feet long.

Hard to say, it's just this tradition. There's this band I'm in (The Electric Fish), it's a reference to one of the first X programs I wrote (xfish), there are 15 fish-objects (stuffed, wooden, etc) in the room where I'm typing this, etc. And I don't even own any real fish.
