The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center lists the Tri-state Tornado of March 18, 1925, as the deadliest in U.S. history. "It" killed 689 people. We say "it" because there is an on-going debate about whether this event was indeed "one" tornado or a family of tornadoes spawned in cycles by a single supercell thunderstorm.
