Keep in mind that no matter what paint you use on wood it won't hold up forever when exposed to the elements. Just look at an old painted wooden house ? that's what you'll get in time: Pealing, cracking, discoloring, etc. There are lots of different opinions about painting and you can always ask a professional painter or someone experienced at your local paint store if you want a second opinion.

In developed countries you can buy flat-black spray paint that says "non-toxic when dry" on the label. Otherwise, black tempera paint works, but you have to be careful not to wash it off when you wash the pot. Solar cookers in Uganda report that they use aluminum pots that have been blackened on the outside by fire.

Fortunately for the paint manufactures, and unfortunately for you, that's something you have to find out yourself. Different guns tend to like different paint. Other factors such as the weather, how fresh the paint is, etc., can all effect how well your paint performs for you. There are a few brands which are well known for their high quality, however they still may not perform in your gun as well as a less popular paint.

The best kind are those that are affordable, are easy to install, and offer the greatest protection. Which of these properties is most important to you depends on individual circumstances. For a disabled or elderly person it may be ease of installation with either an automatic closing mechanism or accordion type shutters. For those with limited incomes plywood shutters may be the only affordable option.

Answer: For best results, we recommend Sherwin Williams A-100 (which is a 100% acrylic paint). If painting with with satin or gloss, XIM primer is recommended (which is an oil based primer). (top)

There are perhaps 10-12 different wood species that are acceptable and commonly used for fence applications. What is best for you will depend on what is readily available in your area and adaptable to the soil and climate conditions on the property works. BACK TO TOP

Use acrylic paints and a clear acrylic lacquer/varnish (available from WH Smiths). Get a small, soft brush which can be moistened into a clearly defined point. Clean the jacket with a damp cloth and let it dry thoroughly. Sketch the design out using feint chalk or make a stencil using masking tape. Paint in thinly applied layers and allow each layer to dry fully. Apply four or more coats. Finally, apply two coats of the lacquer over the design plus a 1cm border.

On hard plastic bodies you may use enamel, lacquer or acrylic paints On poly-carbonate bodies (the see-thru type) you must only use poly-carbonate paint. This is applied on the inside of the body and remains flexible - if you do not use polycarbonate paint then the paint will crack and peel off the first time the body is bent. The protective coating on the outside is then removed to reveal a sparkling painted finish.

Answer: If your shutters are color clear through, we do not recommend that you paint them, as you will void your warranty. It is difficult for the paint to adhere to the polypropylene product. (top)

The best time to have shutters installed is when the house is built so they can be a part of the design. If you own a house without shutters have them installed as soon as is pracitcal. Keep in mind that the beginning of hurricane season may be a busy time for most installation companies. Do NOT wait until a Hurricane Watch is issued for your area. the start of each hurricane season you should test out your shutters.

A good latex paint will do. You want to use latex paint that is specified for use on concrete walls. For basements, you can also put in an additive call Killz, which will reduce the tendency for mold and mildew to grow.

On any wooden column an Oil Based primer and paint are required. For Fiber Cast columns an exterior oil-based paint is required. Always consult with local paint supplier for proper paint selection

There are an ever increasing number of paint grade materials being made available in the millwork industry today. With the improvement in the manufacturing of composite material, MDF, or "medium-density fiberboard", is more and more becoming the standard for paint grade doors and mouldings because of its superior paintability and low cost. Be aware though, there are some drawbacks to using this material in certain applications.
