Physical, emotional, sexual and spiritual abuse can all occur. Physical abuse can occur as beatings, electroshock, torture, confinement, forced ingestion of drugs, blood, and feces. Emotional abuse involves trickery, deceit, and blaming the victim. Sadistic sex with children and non-consenting adults and forced perpetration of sexual abuse are forms that sexual abuse can take.

Child abuse occur in the place where it is least expected; home, and from adults entrusted for the care of children; parents or guardians. In many cases, if the abuser is not a parent/guardian, s/he is certainly known to the child, especially in the case of sexual abuse.

PHYSICAL: Shaking, beating, burning, failure to provide necessities of life (e.g., adequate food, clothing, shelter, medical care). A child is physically injured by other than accidental means. A child is being subjected to willful cruelty or unjustifiable punishment. Any kind of contact with a child could be considered a sexual act. It will depend on the intent of the person making the contact.

Anger is a normal and healthy emotion and does not cause abuse. Even though abusers can be anger at times, abuse happens when an individual chooses manipulative, threatening or physically violent behavior to gain power and control over another individual. Abusive tactics may occur without any anger evident in the abuser. Some mental illnesses may have challenging or violent behaviors as one of their symptoms.

Elder abuse can occur in any setting, but most cases occur in nursing homes or skilled nursing facilities which are understaffed and consist of staff that exist are poorly trained.

Forums: one-hour breakout sessions that feature a successful practice, program, or key issue related to online teaching and learning, or a demonstration of a technological or pedagogical approach.

Chronic exposure to drugs of abuse disrupts the way critical brain structures interact to control behavior - behavior specifically related to drug abuse. Just as continued abuse may lead to tolerance or the need for higher drug dosages to produce an effect, it may also lead to addiction, which can drive an abuser to seek out and take drugs compulsively. Drug addiction erodes a person's self-control and ability to make sound decisions, while sending intense impulses to take drugs.

Varicose veins are most commonly found on the legs of women and men who spend a lot of time on their feet. Birth control pills, hormone therapy, obesity, weight fluctuation, and constipation can also add to the development of varicose veins.

Most problems that occur in the office are caused by physical stress, such as prolonged awkward positions, repetitive motions, and overuse. These injuries can cause stress and strain on muscles, nerves, tendons, joints, blood vessels, or spinal discs. Symptoms include fatigue and hand, wrist, arm, shoulder, neck, or back pain. You may also be at risk for conditions such as tendinopathy and bursitis, which are caused by overuse and repetitive motions.

If a water pipe were to break in the house, a homeowner should know where the main water shut-off is located so they can terminate the water at that point. Normally this is located outside the home in the front or rear where there is a hose bib connection. If a homeowner cannot find it because it is not exposed and accessible, we suggest calling the local water department (you find that phone number on the water bill statement).

Despite our information age, the fact is some “paid off” mortgages never get registered as having been paid off. So when a homeowner goes to sell the property, the title search may turn up a previous mortgage that the seller never knew existed. On paper, it looks like the property has two mortgages that need to be paid off, and that can hold up the sale.

Many experts rate stress as a major factor contributing to abuse and neglect in nursing homes. Nursing home employees are usually paid less than hospital employees and are expected to see more patients in a shorter period of time, both of which can create a very stressful situation. Other contributing factors can be psychological, social, or economic problems of the abuser. The bottom line is none of these factors are excuses for abuse or neglect.

The Jewish community is not immune to the social ills experienced by all Canadians. Unfortunately, woman abuse and child abuse do happen. It is repeated mistreatment or neglect of a child by parent(s) or other guardian resulting in injury or harm. Under California Law, child abuse is a crime. Children need protection because they are vulnerable and often unable to speak for themselves. The California Child Abuse Reporting Law, along with other state laws, provides the legal basis for action to protect children and allow intervention by public agencies if a child is maltreated.
