When a computer displays a digital image, what it does is take the data in the file and display thousands of tiny dots on your screen. The more dots an image has, the more detailed the picture can be. Image quality is measured by dots per inch, or "dpi". We will display a low image quality image if your digital picture will be less than 100 dpi on the Photo Gift. For best results, we recommend that your digital pictures be at least 300 dpi when printed on the Photo Gift.

In computers, dots per inch (dpi) is a measure of the sharpness (that is, the density of illuminated points) on a display screen. The dot pitch determines the absolute limit of the possible dots per inch. However, the displayed resolution of pixels (picture elements) that is set up for the display is usually not as fine as the dot pitch.

DPI stands for dots per inch, or the number of dots of ink that fill a linear inch of surface. DPI is used to measure printing resolution -- the higher the dots per inch, the better the resolution and the better the image quality. For example, if an image has a resolution of 300dpi, it means that a square inch of solid color will be filled with about 90,000 (300X300) dots of ink. (Return to Top)

Most artwork can be created and ready to proof within one business day. Obviously some simple jobs can be ready for approval faster than that. As well some more complicated jobs may take longer to set up for approval.

DPI stands for dots per inch. The more dots there are in a square inch - the higher the resolution of a photo, meaning better photo quality. But when you have more dots, you also have a larger file requiring a longer download time. So, you want to use a lower resolution for your web graphics. Web graphics require a lower resolution than print because of limitations presented by computer monitors. I generally use 72 dpi for web and at least 225-300 dpi for print.
