If your beagle drags his butt along the floor, or leaves a smelly spot on your furniture, then chances are his anal glands are full. These are 2 small external glands which normally release a fluid when your beagle poops, but if the fluid builds up, itching and leaking can occur, and the fluid smells quite foul. This is a common problem in beagles. Your vet or a groomer can "express" the glands in mild cases.

This is likely what is known as a "reverse sneeze", although it actually has nothing to do with sneezing. It sounds like a cross between coughing and gasping for breath, is often accompanied by drooling, and can last for a couple of minutes. The cause of reverse sneezing is unclear - the soft palate is often implicated - but the important thing to know is that it is a common occurence in beagles and is not dangerous. Getting your beagle to swallow seems to help stop it.

Generally, Beagle stores its data in the directory .beagle in the user's home directory. These location can be overriden by using Environment Variables. In addition to it, beagle stores the last indexed information about each file in its extended attributes.

The answer to this question is generally "depends on the type of data being indexed" (mostly media like photos/movies vs. lots of text documents, which take up more indexing space), but 5-10% of the size of the data to be indexed seems to be a good ballpark figure. The short answer is, you can't. Beagles are scent hounds, bred to hunt with their noses, following a scent until they're nearly exhausted. Although with a great deal of perseverance, you can train a beagle to reliably come to you when called much of the time, they will never be 100% reliable, especially if they are following a scent. For this reason, beagles cannot be trusted in a non-fenced yard or off a leash.

I've seen about every Chihuahua I have owned - plus other dog breeds scoot along the floor our ground against thier butt. Some folks make the claim that this indicates the pet has worms. This is not a true statement. In most cases, this is probably going to be impacted anal sacs.

Beagles are a small to medium sized dog, typically ranging from 10" to 16" in height at the shoulder when mature. In the USA, our breed standard disqualifies beagles which exceed 15" in height from participation in conformation or field trial competitions; most other countries recognize 16" beagles as the desired maximum height. Divided into two varieties for competition purposes in the US, the under 13" variety typically weighs less than 20 lbs.

Pocket beagles were very, very small beagle popularized back in the days of Queen Elizabeth I. measuring 9 inches at the shoulder, and Paintings of the time show these beagles to be short-legged and somewhat pointy nosed. In the days of Edward II and Henry VIII, even smaller beagles, referred to as "glove beagles" because they were small enough to to be held in a gauntlet, were much in favor with the Royal Family.

The 'patch' beagle strain is attributed to Willet Randall of New York who began his strain around 1880. His and the 'patch' beagle story are chronicled in a book called 'Wilderness Patchwork'. we all know, a securely fenced yard is an absolute necessity if you want to be able to let your beagle run off leash. But what we consider "securely fenced" might only mean "mildly challenging" to a highly motivated beagle who wants to roam. Some beagles climb out, while others dig, but no matter the method, you need to prevent him or her from escaping.
