It’s not recommended. The coefficient of expansion for concrete is different than that for asphalt. The failed areas telegraph through to the new surface of asphalt, cracking not only at the site of the cracks you wanted to repair, but at the expansion joints as well.

The largest amount of stress from truck tires is along the outside edge of pavement, so the tied shoulder spreads the load more uniformly across the longitudinal joint. An asphalt concrete shoulder does not connect to the PCC and does not provide that edge support like a tied PCC shoulder.

We fix cracks as necessary by grinding them out and re-bonding them with an epoxy crack filler. The crack is then covered by the overlay. However, there is no guarantee that cracks will not return, and we do not warranty cracks. We get many calls from people who have dropped tiles, metal plugs or loose objects into the bath and chipped the surface. If this is the case then don't worry, it is easily repaired! Epoxy Asphalt is a concrete made with a binder that, unlike conventional asphalt, does not become brittle at low temperature and does not melt at high temperature.
