For Windows machines, information is on the web for mapping a drive and for Apple machines, it's done through the Connect to Server option on the File menu.

This functionality is only available to computers (Windows 2000, Windows XP) on the University network (including VPN). You can either map a network drive or use a UNC name to access your ZipSpace. Network drive mapping: Open Windows explorer, click tools and scroll down to map network drive. Choose a drive letter and enter the UNC name described in the example above.

Yes, in fact that's a good idea. Just go to Tools | Options | Open & Save and set the backup location to be the network or removable drive. Keep in mind that this works much better, of course, with machines that are always connected to that network or removable drive.
