What's the difference between omega-3 fatty acids from flax and those found in fish oil?

Flax Seed Health Questions And Answers
Flax is very high in the omega-3 fat ALA (alpha-linolenic acid). This is the "essential" omega-3 fat because our bodies need it to be healthy. However, because our bodies don't produce it, we must consume it from other sources, like flax. Other omega-3 fats, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) and DHA (docosahexaenoic acid), found in fatty fish, are vital for health, but not "essential," because our bodies can make them from ALA.

What color flax seeds does Omega use and what is the difference?

Omega Nutrition
Omega Nutrition uses both brown and golden organic flax seeds. The color of seed varies depending on climate conditions and variety of seeds. The fatty acid profile of flax seed crops can vary by 1-2 percentage points depending on weather conditions, breed of seed and soil conditions. The advantage of eating flax seed over flax oil is that flaxseed is a complete food providing you with the benefits of Omega3, 6 & 9 EFA's, fiber, protein, plant lignans, vitamins, minerals and amino acids. Flax oil, expelled from the flax seed, contains the EFA's but not the fiber, protein and plant lignans (an anti-cancer agent). Flaxseed contains approximately 40% oil.

Why do I need to take Flax Oil Daily?

Omega Nutrition
It is necessary to take flax seed oil daily because Omega Nutrition's cold-pressed flax seed oil delivers Omega-3 and Omega-6, which the human body cannot synthesize. We use about 20 fatty acids to maintain normal function. Our bodies can synthesize all but two, Omega-3 and Omega-6. They must be obtained in proper balance through foods or supplements, which the modern diet does not typically provide. A deficiency in either leads to poor health.

Question 31: How do I keep flax oil fresh and how do I tell when it starts to go rancid?

Healing Cancer Naturally: Dr. Johanna Budwig's Diet & Healin...
Flaxseed oil is fragile and needs to be handled properly. An unopened and frozen bottle of flaxoil should last for a year or so. After it is opened and kept frozen it still should last for several months. If it is only kept in the refrigerator, the shelf life before rancidity would be less than that... perhaps about half and possibly more than half. I have not tried it as I always keep mine in the freezer. The biggest problem in causing quick rancidity is light.
