Our waterways are effected by normal tidal action with no known rip tides, undertows or other unusually hazardous conditions. Our waterways are relatively free of pollution and safe for swimming; however, it is advisable not to go swimming for several days after a heavy rain. Alligators have been sighted occasionally in some waterways near highway 11.

Campers have to pass a deep end test before being allowed to swim in the deep end of the big pool. Once they pass this test they will be given a bracelet to wear for the duration of their time at camp indicating they are allowed in the deep end. Please allow your camper to wear it for the duration of their stay with us.

We are very sensitive to safety, and we insist that everyone on our boats wears a personal floatation device (PFD, also known as a life jacket). If you were to fall into the water, your PFD would make you float on the surface until a safety boat would take you aboard and then back to land.

This delightful crescent shaped beach offers both shelter and a gentle gradient from the beach to the water. Waves tend to be gentle and ideal for young swimmers. Please be aware there are no Surf Life Savers monitoring this beach.

Guests swim out to the swimming pontoon all the time. A few have swum around the entire island before and some extremely fit guests have swim to Pulau Pangkil Besar (‘Big Pangkil’) about 2 km away. We don’t advise either of the latter-two options, but if you insist, please alert our staff and have them follow you in one of the speedboats.

Firstly, no beach is 'safe', because of its intrinsic nature and proximity to water, rocks and sand dunes. However, Blue Flag Award beaches are relatively safe as they will have assessed the risks, identified any potential hazards and provided appropriate lifesaving equipment. The bathing water quality at all Blue Flag Award beaches meet the legislation's guidline standards, based on the Bathing Water Directive 76/160/EEC.

Yes. The concentration of mercury in most surface waters is extremely low- usually less than 5 parts per trillion. One part per trillion is the same as one drop of detergent in enough dish water to fill 500 swimming pools. The safety standard for drinking water is 2 parts per billion which means that most swimming water would have less mercury that the maximum allowed for drinking water.

We do not recommend it. Between the pollution and the unpredictable currents, it can be downright hazardous. We are aware that many people swim at Devil's Pool and while they may not get sick or injured, they do so at their own risk. We have heard reports of dogs getting skin cancer from swimming in the creek, of tumors in fishes and of divers being injured on the rocks at the bottom of Devil's Pool, so we would strongly advise against it.
