This is the typical ?square? image favoured (until very recently) by television presentations. This aspect ratio is expressed as FS 4:3 or (1.33:1 in decimal terms) denoting that the frame is 1.33 times as wide as it is tall. Fullscreen presentations will fill the entire screen area of standard ?square? fullscreen televisions. When viewed on a widescreen set, black bars will be visible on each side (right and left) of the screen.

Hit X or your fullscreen keyboard shortcut. On some remotes the red button is mapped to fullscreen as well.

Press Alt+Enter to toggle between fullscreen and windowed mode. If you want the emulator to open up in fullscreen mode, use the -f commandline switch (check this section of the FAQ if you're not sure how to do that).

Many DVD's are labeled as having widescreen (16:9) format video on one side and standard (4:3) on the other. If you think both sides are the same, you're probably seeing uncompressed 16:9 on the widescreen side. It seems to be 4:3 pan & scan, but if you look carefully you'll discover that the picture is horizontally compressed. The problem is that your player has been set for a widescreen TV. See 1.22 for details.

Call "export AROS_X11_FULLSCREEN=1" in a shell. Start AROS and change the screen resolution in the screenmode preferences. Quit AROS and start it again.

Most applications previously developed for the Palm platform were developed for resolutions of either 160x160 or 320x320 pixels. Today there are also 320x480 (HiRes+ Portrait - like most modern Clie handhelds) and 480x320 (HiRes+ Widescreen - like the UX series) resolutions but many applications has not been adapted for these resolutions yet. Fullscreen mode doesn't work under Linux. Sun plans to add it to it's next release of 5.x, but no promise have been made. If you have problems under Windows, it's possible you don't have sufficient access rights to change the display mode.

The key change is in the meaning of D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_DEFAULT, when you're setting up your D3DPRESENT_PARAMTERS structure. Previously, it meant D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_IMMEDIATE - that is, flip the buffers as soon as Present() is called - but in D3D9 it's been changed to mean D3DPRESENT_INTERVAL_ONE, which means that Present() will wait for the vertical retrace. As a result, the renderer's framerate gets limited to the screen's refresh rate. There is no problem.

Use the function w32-send-sys-command. This is a known problem. Some JVM react badly to been switch from/to fullscreen mode. We have had problems with both Sun's and Apple's Java 1.4.2. However, Java 5.0 seems to be perfectly stable. My suggestions are: Pick a graphic mode and stick with it. If you want your game to work in 800x600 fullscreen mode, switch to that mode and don't switch back until program termination.

The Top map is automatically fit to the screen and scaled to the largest size possible without distorting the map. The closer the proportions of the map are to the proportions of the window, the more of the screen the Top map will be able fill.

When using QuakeMap to prepare maps, run QuakeMap in windowed mode (not maximized/full screen) and resize the window into a square. MapAdvisor fits the map to the height or width of the screen. Currently MapAdvisor is designed to use resolution 320x320 (Palm). Therefore, a square map will cover the full square area on the device.

I get an error message saying that the player was unable to detect overlay mode, or I get a black box all over the video.
