What are flap valves, suction relief valves, and how are they used?

FAQ - Ellicott Dredges
Suction relief valves are mounted as close to the suction mouth of the suction line as is practical. It can be opened manually to allow extra water into the slurry, or automatically if the suction or discharge lines begin to plug, as measured by vacuum and pressure sensors. The suction relief can also be connected to a Production Meter System to help keep at a consistent level of production.

Can ASCO Pneumatic valves be used in a vacuum service application?

ASCO Valve - FAQ Product Questions
Some valves can be used with vacuum, some cannot. Those that can be will be catalogued with a minimum pressure of 29"Hg. Valves designated in our catalog with a pressure range starting at 0 psi or with a minimum pressure (e.g., 25, 30 or 45 psi) can not be used with vacuum. Valves that can be externally piloted may be used in vacuum applications when properly configured and supplied with external pressure that meets minimum pressure requirement. Not all of our valves are numbered. See similar questions...

Jamesbury brand ball valves with the proper trims are excellent for chlorine service. See similar questions...

Why are ball valves sized smaller than globe valves for the same application?

Frequently Asked Questions
Ball valves typically have higher Cv ratings than globe valves for the same size valve. Therefore the ball valves that are used to handle the same flow as a globe valve will be smaller. The adjusted Cv (Fp factor) must be taken into consideration when sizing valves. This factor takes into account line size when sizing a valve (see page 6 of Engineering, Applications and Installation.) See similar questions...

Are your three way ball valves for diverting or mixing applications?

Frequently Asked Questions
DEI's three way valves are designed for diverting applications. Using them for mixing applications will cause premature wear of the seats and will not produce an equal percentage flow curve. It is DEI's recommendation to pipe the valves for diverting applications only. To use a diverting ball valve for a coil application, simply pipe the valve before the coil (vs. after the coil as you would a mixing application). (See page 10 of Engineering, Applications and Installation.) See similar questions...
