These records are created by local authorities, and with possible exceptions for events overseas, in the military, or in the District of Columbia. They are not considered Federal records; therefore they are not held by NARA.

The Historical Society of Pennsylvania maintains an outstanding collection of resources necessary to identify and validate Pennsylvania vital records of the 18th to mid-19th centuries. Such sources include cemetery, church, baptismal and bible records, family histories and newspaper announcements.

If the copies are being presented to a foreign country that is part of the Hague Treaty, the copies need an Apostille Seal from the New Jersey Secretary of State. The Apostille Seal can only be applied to certified copies of vital records issued from the State Bureau of Vital Statistics and Registration. If your birth certificate was issued by the Jersey City – Hudson County Vital Records Office, it is not valid for passport application.

The California Department of Education does not collect and/or store student transcripts, records, or cumulative files for students in California public schools. A California public school (K-12), contact the school directly. If the school is closed, contact the local school district or county office of education for assistance. Government records may be seen and copied from a records custodian at a municipal building, or board of education, and from records custodians at other levels of government such as your county, state agencies, and local, county and state authorities.

You must go to the Concentra Medical Center where you received service. Present your photo ID, and complete the Request for Medical Records Form. Your medical records will be sent to you in 2-3 weeks.

Additionally, publications known as the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs) are revised and issued annually. The CFRs are kept up to date by the individual issues of the Federal Register.
