Who scores the WASL?

OSPI Assessment
Hundreds of people score the WASL, including a large group of Washington teachers. All scorers are monitored closely by Pearson Educational Measurement, the state's testing contractor. WASL scorers who are not Washington educators must have, at a minimum, a four-year college degree. All scorers ? both Washington teachers and Pearson personnel ? are monitored daily to ensure their scores meet criteria of accuracy and consistency set by Washington educators. Can students appeal their High School WASL scores?

Yes. Scores may only be appealed on high school assessments that are required for graduation: WASL, DAW, WAAS-Portfolio or Collection of Evidence (one of the Certificate of Academic Achievement Options). To appeal a score, a student's parent/guardian must first review their child's test booklet(s), portfolio or collection. Students in Grade 10 who took the tests this spring will receive two sets of WASL results. By June 15, individual student scores for reading, writing, and math will be sent to families. An additional report will be issued to Class of 2009 families in September that includes the results from the science WASL.
