It's because of the hair. Each caribou hair has a network of large, honeycomb-like cells that trap air, acting as an excellent insulator. Air is also trapped between the densely-packed hairs.

The Canarian Islands have a subtropical climate. During the winter the average temperature is about 23 Celcius degrees, during the summer the average temperature is about 27 Celcius degrees. It can be quite chilly during the winter months. We therefore advise you to bring a sweater.

Ft.: Summers (May- September): The days are warm and one can get by in a T-shirt or light jacket. Early mornings and evenings being colder, light woolens from May to August are recommended. Winters (November- March): Please carry heavy woolens.

Scotland tends to be fairly mild most of the year, although it can be very cold in the winter – we would advise you to bring along a warm jumper and rainproof jacket at most times of the year, as the weather can change within a short space of time. You won’t need any special equipment for any of the tours, but please wear comfortable footwear and let us know if you have any mobility issues.

In general, all clothing and swimwear should be modest in appearance. Camp policy requests no bikinis, halter tops, or spaghetti-strap tops be worn.
