This all depends on the rules of the hosting association. With some associations (North Texas Adults and Oklahoma), any player can temporarily register with the hosting association. If this is the case, a fee determined by the association will be required for each player. For other associations (South Texas and North Texas Youth) you must register through a club or association prior to the tournament.

Teams usually participate in an average 2 tournament days per month over the course of a season -- with February, March, and April being the heaviest months. The tournaments are played on either Saturday or Sunday, or even both. Ultimately, how often you will play in tournaments will depend upon which team you are on. The open weekends remaining from the minimally-scheduled season may be filled with additional tournaments.

The number of players changes the game by an amazing amount. I usually play with 3 opponents but I think I will try some of the other combos. It should get tougher as you add more opponents. As you add the additional opponents, your amount of starting cash dwindles and therefore makes it harder to float a corporation. I cant be sure if there actually is any difference in the programming for the robber barons but this is what I have noticed: Gould is a share thrasher, a good robber baron.
