Can I use one davit to lift my outboard motor?

Ocean Marine Frequently Asked Questions
Once disconnected as outlined above, a single davit can be used to lift the motor. The motor can then be swung right up to the rail or up to the walk through transom. Consider using our MS1 motor sling!

Is it practical to sail engineless or with only a small outboard motor?

Atom Voyages | Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
After sailing several years with a cantankerous old Atomic 4 gasoline inboard motor which I rarely used, I decided to remove it entirely and sail engine-free. I made this choice for many reasons, including feeling that I was ready to tackle this sport on another level. Sailing alone and engineless seemed the best way to discover whatever it was that I was looking for. See similar questions...

Twelves are generally racing boats and if you try to attach a motor to a modern 12 there is a good chance it will sink or capsize with the weight, or maybe the transom will fall off . . . so best avoided. See similar questions...

What size of outboard motor do I need?

Ensenada 20 - Frequently Asked Questions
This depends on your loaded boats displacement, how far you intend to motor, and the conditions that may be encountered. Serendipity came with a 3.9 hp Volvo Penta (yes they made outboards) with a 2 blade prop. This would push her 4.3 mph in flat conditions. However with 3 foot steep waves and a 20 knot wind on the nose we stood perfectly still at full throttle. We've since mounted a 5 hp Mariner with a 3 blade prop. See similar questions...

Why would I use a rail mounted davit?

Ocean Marine Frequently Asked Questions
By rail mounting, we have a system that requires minimum custom work to install. With so many yachts on the water, there is far more commonality in the rails than in the yacht designs. Therefore, it is possible to offer a rail mount davit at a much more competitive price and a system that is much easier to install. See similar questions...

What makes your outboard motor sling better?

Ocean Marine Frequently Asked Questions
Our motor sling is made from heavy-duty webbing rated at 1400 lbs. All fittings and fasteners are made from stainless steel - no plastic to fatigue from ultraviolet radiation. The sling itself wraps around the motor twice before terminating on buckles at the after end of the motor. Even the new design four-stroke outboards cannot slip out of this sling since it continues to get tighter as the motor tries to slide. We think so highly of it that it comes with our unconditional lifetime warranty. See similar questions...

Do I need to install a hydrofoil on the outboard motor?

INFLATABLE BOATS", dinghies, rafts. 11' INFLATABLE BOAT only...
We recommend that you install a hydrofoil on the outboard motor in order to improve speed and boat handling. Can I Use Outboard/Motorcycle/Jetski Reed Valves?

Pulsejet, Pulse-Jet FAQ
No. The reed valves used in regular piston-engines operate in an entirely different environment. They are never exposed to the heat of combustion and spend their time being fanned by a cool breeze and sprayed with cold fuel droplets as they sit in the intake or crankcase of the engine. By comparison, the reed valves in a pulsejet must operate under extremely harsh conditions and intense heat. See similar questions...

Generally, stand-alone digital multi-track recorder cannot be connected to outboard processor for send/return effects. What type of outboard motor can be installed on Saturn inflatable boats?

Short shaft 15" outboard motors are recommended to be installed on the 15" transom of Saturn inflatable boats. The lighter the outboard motor - the better. Either 2-stroke or 4-stroke engines may be installed on a boat transom, however 2-stroke engines are generally much lighter then 4-stroke outboard motors. Long shaft 20" motors are not recommended, but may also be installed if a short shaft o/b is unavailable. However a long shaft o/b may create extra underwater drag. See similar questions...

How much can a motor lift? How fast can it spin?

Robot Project FAQ
It all depends on everything. A good rule of thumb is that a motor can lift the weight of the battery that drives it; or that a motor can lift its own weight. Remember that motors can either spin slow and be strong (near stall), or can spin fast and be weak (at no load). You can't have both. Motors will spin faster and be stronger the higher the battery voltage. A good test of whether you are driving a motor too hard is to feel it. If it is hot, turn down the voltage or reduce the load.
