Add the thickness of the existing insulation and this gives you the nail length required for the fastener to penetrate ¾" or more into the sheathing. Yes, but most times you need to install additional window and door trim to ensure that the product lies flush with windows and doors. Sometimes this additional trim requirement makes it less expensive to tear off the old siding and start from scratch. Lakeside Lumber has the unique ability to preprime or prestain all four sides of any of its wood products prior to application. This automated process is highly cost effective and coats the entire board. Recent research from the U.S. Forest Products Lab indicates that siding exposed to the weather for 2-3 weeks weathers enough to reduce the adhesion of film forming finishes.

Although cedar is a natural durable species, leaving it untreated is not recommended because a finish or protective coating will greatly increase it's service life. Cedar is free of pitch and with its high degree of dimensional stability, it is the best of the softwoods for accepting paints, stains, oils and other coatings. Lakeside Lumber recommends an initial coat of high quality oil based primer on all four sides of the siding, followed by two coats of high quality 100% acrylic latex paint.

Our sheds normally come with a 5/8th inch pine siding, but if you plan on putting on vinyl or some other type of siding, we can put on OSB siding. OSB (chip board) is a little cheaper and better for vinyl siding. Just let us know when ordering that you plan on putting up your own siding.

If you have special installation concerns?such as running vinyl siding along a natural stone chimney, for example?talk to your contractor. He's probably handled a similar installation in the past. If he hasn't, he always can get detailed installation instructions from an Alside technical specialist. a homeowner, that's important.

Once you receive your furniture, additional fine sanding (before finishing) is recommended, to avoid surface dust or roughness. Always sand in the direction of the the grain of the wood. Then apply a preservative (see below).

Take a few minutes and make sure screws, nuts, and bolts are snug. Lightly sand any areas where 'slivering' may have occurred and then give the cedar products a coat of water seal treatment.

Currently we build 100 cedar decks for every pressure treated one. We prefer using natural outdoor cedar to chemically treated wood. We also find a lot less slivers and a deck that looks better now and in years to come.

Yes, many of our customers use our wooden products on vinyl-sided houses. For most items we recommend 'round-head' (also called 'pan-head') brass screws, with screw heads left exposed. Screws allow more adjusting than nailing, avoid damage from hammer blows, and permit easy removal for maintenance.

Yes. We install a "Dow" brand product made of extruded styrene. Normally 1/4" breather type. This is a plastic coated rigid foam that is perforated to allow moisture to pass through. Rainbow Play Systems uses 100% natural redwood and Western red cedar, only from certified sawmills and grown in Washington and Western Canada. We do not import our wood from overseas. These woods are naturally more insect and decay resistant and tend to split, check, splinter and warp less than other commonly used woods. Most pressure treated lumber is made from Southern Yellow Pine, a fairly brittle softwood.
